Re: Compact 4AA host for 5W Luxeon

WELL, that sounds like a good light guys.

It has all my favorite things, my favorite batts..(AA's),, compact, and BRIGHT.

The problem is going to be heat, and getting the volts nessisary from just 4 AA's.

I was trying to think of some bodies to accomidate this, and only came up wit one idea. -- Take a 2D maglight... and put 6 AA's in it. I havent measured, but I think they would fit. -- I know this is getting alittle larger than we were talking about. Its not exacly compact, but, I dont really think 4 AA's are going to make this project worth it. Putting a big old 5W in a light, then under driving it, is alittle bit of backstepping, dont you think?

I have mentioned before, that we need something like the Space Needles running of C or even better,,, AA's . (in case you cant tell, I hate 123 cells)

Hmmm , another idea, call me crazy.. but, couldnt a we pack a ton of rechargable AAA's in a small light? This making it not much bigger, but packing the volts we need.

-- How many volts are we going for in this light anyway? If its above 6 volts, then the AA's arent going to do the job, and still keep the light small.

-- OK, I'm out of ideas, just thought I'd ramble off some ideas, to get all of us thinking outside the box alittle.

You need around 7.2 volts to run a 5W Luxeon. The idea is to use four AA's and a step-up converter like a BB750.

AHHHH, I see. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

SOOOO many possiblilities.

Well if someone comes up with something about as bright as a Space Neddle running off AA's... I am going to be tickled pink. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
