Compact Flashlight

Welcome to CPF! (I'd use the welcome smiley but for some reason it's not showing at the moment).

The Fenix LD10+ looks like a good EDC choice. For others: do you want 1AA or are you open to other choices? Another 1AA would be the Quark Mini AA at the same site, less expensive though it doesn't come with a clip. Would you be wanting to use Eneloops or Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)? Would you be using belt carry only, or possibly pocket carry (pants? coat?), or on your keychain? Anything else you can tell us about your past lights, size and price ranges, or envisioned uses of the new light would be helpful.

If you haven't already, be sure to look at the Welcome Mat: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=172991
Also, the Glossary is helpful: http://www.cpfwiki.com/Wiki/index.php/Terminology

:welcome:
There are different ways to carry an EDC.

Keychain carry. Usually this is a coin cell or AAA light. An AA light is too heavy especially hanging off car keys. I use this as a backup light as it is annoying to hold my keys when I need light. A Fenix E01 single mode or LD01 3 mode.

Pocket carry. This depends on the size of your pants pockets. If you wear skinny jeans the maximum size for horizontal placement is a 1AA twistie like the Quark Mini AA or Nitecore EZAA. The 1/4 inch extra length of the 1AA clickie lights make for some discomfort pressing against the leg. The 1AA clickie torches can sit more comfortably vertically. So an LD10 with a pocket clip will fit. The 1AA clickies will fit sitting horizontally in looser dress pants pockets. With cargo pants much bigger lights can be carried.

Belt carry. This is usually done with a holster, not a clip on the light itself. The older 2 mode Fenix L1T v2.0 comes with a holster. (If you really need more light than a L1T v2.0 you need a bigger light (Quark AA2) or lithium batteries (Quark123), not the 20% improvement of the LD10.)

There are many other brands of lights available so don't limit yourself to Fenix.

EDIT.
Forgot about the new Zebralight SC50. Only 3.15 inches long, but takes 1AA battery.

The Maratac AA is a very compact 1 AA that also has a clip and a keychain attachment point. You can find them at Countycomm.com.

Thanks for the Welcome!!!

I'm looking for a 1AA light. Something that is bright & that I can clip to my pocket or belt. Would like to keep it under $65.00.

If I was you I would get a Quark AA so you can use 14500 battery if you ever choose to and still be able to use all the output modes. With a 14500 battery the Quark AA is a power house, I also prefer the XP-E R2 model. I don't care for the XP-G in my Quarks or my Fenix PD30 R4 because of the lack of throw compared to the R2 and also all my R2 Quark and Fenix have better tint then the XP-G R4 and R5.

You talking about this one?

I though the Fenix LD10 R4 puts out more light. Am I wrong???

The LD10 is great...but 120 lumens...I don't think so. More like 100-105 from what I can tell when I've compared to other lights I have.

For EDC, you cannot go wrong with the LD10...but I would suggest you consider the 4Sevens Quark AA or 123. I have several 4Sevens lights and Fenix lights, and from what my eyes can tell, the 4Sevens are producing more lumens.

Just my $0.02

The Quark AA is great, no question.

Another great AA light is the Nitecore D10 Tribute. Its clip, already installed on this model, is one of the very best.

Dependent largely on your personal tastes I could easily recommend any of the three main lights talked about so far.

I've had many D10's, a handful of Quark AA's and a few of the LD10's predecessor, the L1D and given your need for an installed clip would think you're likely to find any of these acceptable.

You might also add the NDI to the mix, if you don't need a really low-low, in which case you need the Quark AA. If you want the smallest package possible though then any of the others would suit you better.

Just looked at the Nitecore D10 Tribute & it looks pretty good too. How do I choose! Which gives out the brightest beam?

Which one of these would give out the most light? They both seem good. My friend has a SureFire E2D LED & I love how much light it puts out. I used it at the ranch one night & it was awesome. It's just a little too pricey for me.

One of my favorite AA lights is the JETBeam JET-1 PRO V3.0. 145 lumens with a regular AA, and 240 lumens with a 14500 lithium rechargeable. I love this light and carry it every day. It has 3 user programmable outputs that can be set at any output, in any order. Puts out a beautiful smooth beam with the OP reflector. It has a dual purpose clip that lets you carry it bezel up or down in the pocket. Just a really nice quality light that I highly recommend. Use the CPFSAVE12 discount code at checkout and it is under $65.00.

1xAA will not give you a blazing bright output, for that you'd have to use 14500s. the 1.5v in an AA vs the 3.7v of a 14500 is simply no comparison.

+1 on the Jet I Pro v3.0, i have v2.0 and its a great light

oh and :welcome:

Some beam shot comparisons between the JET-1 PRO and the NiteCore D10....which I also like. Both running AW protected 14500 lithium rechargeables.

nice pics bondr006! the hotspot of the Jetbeam looks a lot tighter than the D10, in real world use does that translate to better throw as compared to the D10?

Also bond is that pic of the Jetbeam with OP or SMO reflector. I have been getting more and more interested in 14500 powered lights, something about the perfect pocket size light without being to small to grip. Even though I have the RRT0 the Jet-1 seems to be coming up a lot in different threads and I can't seem to shake my desire to get one.

The JET-1 has a bigger, deeper reflector than the D10 which gives it quite a bit better throw. In selfbuilt's 1xAA Roundup Review the JET-1 has 4,850 lux, and the D10 has 2,800 lux. Both are using 14500 and have OP reflectors. Both are also using the Q5 LED. Both mine have OP reflectors and are using the R2 LED. The D10 does not seem to benifit near as much from using a 14500 as the JET-1 does.

All I can say jhc, is you won't be sorry you got it. It's just a nice little light that I have nothing bad to say about. I carry it every day which speaks for itself how I feel about it.

+1 on the JetBeam. I just got mine 2 days ago and it's def a keeper. I was surprised how small it is. On a 14500 it's got plenty of legs. Does get warm on high for more than 10 minutes, but that's the breaks.

It was my first AA sized light, since I had already bought 14500's in anticipation it was fun to see the difference in NiMH, Alk & 14500.

I paid $56 shipped to my door from Bugoutgear. Love ordering from them, easy, fast and a great vendor. I bought the warm tint, OP.
