As an aside: These will be the last run of Luci for me. I've enjoyed making them, and will continue to make them when specifically requested, i.e., a custom order. I will occasionally design and build a Luce, if I can think of something new.

ORIGINAL POST:

All available Trit spheres have been segregated for specific builds--I have no more available for building a Luce.

If you have your own Trit sphere, then I can build a Luce for you--please e-mail me. Thanks.

For more info on previously built Luci, please read the original sales thread.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Count me in for at least 1, maybe 2. Large grooved brass for 1.
Maybe magnesium for the other, just trying to figure out how to ship the block to you.

Do these have a cover so they can be "turned off"?
Thanks
Ed

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

you could probably make a kydex sheath it would snap into that could cover both ends and block the light. could even put a clip for belt carry if you want to get crazy .

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

I am obviously missing something here, I guess I really am unenlightened... Does the light come out of both ends??

Ed

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Ed,

Yes, but from the front end, it is as bright as possible--the Tritium sphere is located inside the reflector, just resting there, so all the light is directed forward.

However, all reflectors have holes at their base, where the LED normally enters; in the case of the Luce, I've enlarged the hole a tad and the little teat that sticks out from the Tritium sphere comes out of that enlarged opening and sticks into the polycarbonate piece, which has been bored to allow room for the teat.

So, if the Luce is sitting front down on your nightstand, there is a faint glow that emanates from the polycarbonate hemispherical tailcap. It isn't bright, you wouldn't see it in daylight, but once your eyes become adjusted to total darkness, then it is quite visible. It allows you to quickly locate the Luce on your nightstand. Or, if you didn't bother to carry it to the bathroom, then it shows you the location of your nightstand at least. :D

[edit 4/22]
Ed,

Here's a shot which shows the light exiting both ends of the Luce, but, as you can see, it is much dimmer at the domed end.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

These things are so cool. Can anyone make any statement or comparisons to how bright they are from the front. Can anyone compare it to a low setting on a light? I am saving up for one of these.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

What a bettery type for Luce de notte CR2 or CR123./ Thanks.

The Luce's light comes from a Tritium sphere, not from a battery. The halflife of the sphere is about 12 years.

The spheres are clearly visible in the reflector in this pic:

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

definitely in for one of the Al ones (maybe a brass/ss too) with a domed tail, preferrably in green but blue is fine too.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

I'm interested. Missed the first run. As of right now I'm thinking brass, green, flat tail. But I'm not too sure about the tail yet. I'll have to ponder a bit and search out more info.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Will you be offering 18mm spheres as well?

Rudi,

While I normally use the 11mm sphere, I have installed many 18mm spheres that folks have sent to me. For this run, if you want an 18mm sphere, then I will order it from B@rt for your build. Just need to know the color you'd like.

Also, the 18mm fits best in one of the larger sized Luce's, i.e., the 27mm reflector, so you can choose between AL, brass or Ti.

BTW, you have to add $55 to the prices shown in the first thread since the 18mm sphere is $110, versus $55 for the 11mm sphere.

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Yes Fred, please order a green 18mm sphere for me. Large Luce, knurled brass. I'll let you know whether domed end, flat end, or blocked end after evaluating the 11mm small one that is in the works.
Thanks,
Rudi

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Why am I a sucker for custom lights with limited uses? Of course I want one... large grooved (two toned, brushed ribs, if possible) Ti with domed poly and probably ice blue tritium.

Do the tritium spheres come in other colors, such as yellow, orange or red?

Re: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Is there a major difference in perceived brightness between the 11mm and 18mm spheres?

Nuts, now I can't decide. Pending an answer to my question about other colors, I think I may want two "affordable" Luci instead of a Ti one. One brass with blue domed, one Al with green domed, both grooved. Yeah.
