I was at va center commons mall in richmond, va yesterday and went to the dollar store. I go there for some interesting things, something to build from or use for something else.

Anyway, by the phone cords and what not was a thing labeled computer light. It has a usb plug and clips to your screen on your laptop. Its a single white led light. It was not that bright, but I could see that with it clipped to the top of my screen it covered most of the alphabet keys on my laptops keyboard.

The package is light blue in color and the back says distributed by greenbrier international inc chesapeake va 23220 made in china.

Looks like something to see my keys next time the power fails and I have phone, but no power. Sure would beat putting a light on your chest while in your lazy boy to see you keys.

If it looks like this:

then it's really no good at all. For $1, it might be OK if you don't mind buying a new one every two weeks or so.

I have a terrible evaluation of it right here if you're interested.
I say "terrible" because this product received the lowest rating I can give. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif :toliet: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Dang. That's a pretty foul mouth you have there. Why can't you just say "it's no good" or "I didn't like it." ?

Reading your review you didn't really say anything overly negative about the light except that it had gotten dimmer over time. Then you go and flush it down the toilet? I don't get it. You got it for ONE dollar, it served its purpose but dimmed a bit with time. I would've given it half a star atleast.

While I agree that the light is probably an inferior product (although really, for $1 what are you expecting?) - the use of profanity or implied profanity probably isn't necessary. Maybe you could limit your descriptions just to the topic at hand without the use of so many colorful adjectives.

That is it, wow. Seems they get around. Wonder how much they went for at one time? Ive seen usb lights and fans, but think they want a bit more than I am willing to spend.

I know its a buck, I dont really plan on using it unless i suffer anotehr power failure that runs more than 5 hours. Thats assuming I can find where I put it.

I see the beam shot, Mines is no where as bright. Its on the dim side, like that of my ccrane knife light that I never got around to replacing the batteries. The beam is also wider too.

I think Targus makes something similar that you plug into a USB port. Haven't tried it but I do remember finding instructions somewhere (not on CPF) on how to build your own. I think it was on some PC-modders site.

I've got one from Targus and some other brand. Both have bendable shafts so you can position the light as you please. Problem with both is the LED is overly directional, creating too small a hot spot and leaving a good number of keys insufficiently illuminated.

I got one identical to that picture at the dollar tree and wired it up to my computer through a 5v power connector (my usb isn't powered, it is v1.0} it ended up flashing it perhaps I accidentally hit it with 12v. I can get keychain LED lights for the same price and led cliplights and that things cord is way too short to be useful for me. I pulled the metal cover off and it is just an led wired in a blob the resistor is in the USB plug potted in a solid blob of plastic, I almost bet it was overdriving it I would have to look at the resistor I saved, took me an hour to cut it out of there with a utility knife. I agree the spot if puts out is too small for a keyboard unless it is put about 8 feet above it.
