Here is another small project for consuming some obsoleted LED.
Main task is to replace the 3x 20W fluorescent lamp which only last for 8000hrs ~3 years.

Total 42 LED driver 350mA ~ 54W
The heatsink is slight warm only. Expected run time of LED should be more than 10 years.
I think there is some room for driving it harder like 700mA.

Thanks for watching!

are those some cree XR-E I see???!!

oohhh download.. you're mean!

aahh such beautiful work! :twothumbs

Thanks csshih, they are Cree XR-E P3-Q2 x27, Cree warm tint x3, Seoul P3-P4 x6 & Luxeon III x6.
I'm really enjoy the instant full brightness.

It looks stupid right? Haha
I would take it out after adjusting the current.

Upon seeing the title, I figured I'd better get right in here, and stop you from eating them!

:stupid:

Nice work, Download! Great way to use a bunch of older LED's. Hopefully you have that in a utility room or something, as most wives would bonk you on the head with one of those heatsinks for having something that ugly in the house... lol. I love it though!

I have a couple plans to "consume" mine as well. One will be to light up a multi-shelf flashlight display cabinet with a bunch of TWOH Lux III's. I also hear they go great with olive oil, and fried onions. ;)

No, I think it's good fit with the design of the light. Maybe print an appropriate pattern on the disc for slightly better aesthetics, but it's not bad at all as is.

You could always flip it upside down and bounce it off the ceiling for a more ambient affect.

I wonder- if reflectors were used in that regard to create intense hot spots would that be better or worse for diffusing the light out while maintaining the maximum room illumination.

you know what? we should somehow attach a motor to that thing.. and rev it up!

Thanks guys,

gswitter, I want to use CD to cover the rough cutting edge of heatsink, but it did not match.

blasterman, purduephotog
I need the more brightness, it looks OK now, but I will put it a little bit harder.

It is unknow china driver, pretty simple in my eye. Input 100-220V output 0.35A Max 100W.

csshih, love your ideas!

Now... where by chance did you pick up the driver? eBay?

I'm putting together a list (like all my other projects that I don't have time for, including photos for blasterman, sigh) of AC line drivers. I'm tempted to build a wallwart test unit this weekend using the poor man multi-lux driver setup with a 1A regulator and a couple of crees.

purduephotog,
I think similar or better driver you can seach & find in internet.
It does not look like a reliable one that I would suggest. :poof:

Understood. No one makes the drivers I want :) That's why I look for places that have cheap ones- there might be something there for small builds.

might improve on the multiple shadows effect though...

may I ask where did you find such heatsinks?

Illum,
This was the same question I asked myself before.
I did try some hardware store for extrusion. No perfect solution was found.

You see it is normal cross section of small heatsink, just longer like 2'.
It was small customs made order.
Prepared by manufacturer and anodized with color pink.
I knew pink is not the best for heat dispersion.
But it looks cool man!
