I haven't been hanging around CPF for a while, but I do browse once in a while when something looks interesting. The latest superbulb thread caught my eye, and got me thinking about what all these people were going to do with all of these flamethrowers they have. I'm always fascinated with what other people are coming up with and wish there was a way to compare all of the homemade lights. I know a few people did a comparison of some of the superlights a while back (was it Kens-something? and Ted-something?, sorry, can't remember the exact names) Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody would be interested in a contest for the brightest light. I suppose we could break it down into separate catagories, most likely by battery type and configuration (start with N-cell, up to Nx 123's or rechargables). But in the end, I'd just want to see who's got the brightest light, period. I haven't given much thought yet as to how the lights are going to be judged, what the criteria should be, where the lights are going to tested, how to get them all in one place, etc. But if enough people are interested, maybe we could work something out. I'd even put up some prizes for the winners, just don't expect a new maxabeam, I'm unemployed. But I'd definitely contribute something interesting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Anyway, I'm just trying to find out if people would be interested in something like this.
P.S. Just a random note, a H3 100W headlight bulb WILL work off 12 AA's, running at 96+ watts , at least for a minute or two. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Cramming it into a Maglight without the head melting is another problem though. And I have plans for something special. Being unemployed with a lot of time gives people strange ideas.
