Control Ring ... Fad or Function?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

1: you know and can choose which mode the light will turn on before you turn it on.

Not ALWAYS a true statement. Yes, for lights like the V11R they do work that way. Others, like the M11R and RRT01 you have to advance up through lower settings, but it's quick and painless to do so.

2: you can lower the brightness/mode without having to cycle through higher mode(s) first.

A big plus. I get the 'I don't need 43 lumens instead of 54 lumens' argument, but fine tuning a light to the task, the setting and your eyes at that moment is very handy. Coming from sound asleep .9 lumens may be plenty to navigate in a pitch black room. Coming from a lit room to that same dark spot may well require 10, until your eyes can adjust. Why wait for that when you can easily adjust your light output?

I like any UI where the main power switch doesn't control mode switching, allowing full momentary use without accidental mode changes.

I have a U2 that I bought in 06 or 07 that still gets plenty of use.
Its the only control ring light that I have but I really like the functionality of the ring, its nice to adjust the level prior to activating.
