Convoy flashlight opinions?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Thanks, but the UMS4 doesn't have a discharge function that I am aware of. And I went with the UMS4 to get a charger I knew could take the extra long Coast ZX955 (protected 21700) cells. Only charger I found that could take 4 of those at the same time.

Slow charging was also a main feature for me - I want no more than 1 A, preferably max 0.5 A, fed into a cell. I got time - if it takes all night, I'm good with that. :)

Juicy power brick on the S4 Plus though, I did like that one. The UMS4 didn't come with a power supply, only a USB-A to Micro-USB cable. You had to supply your own USB-A or phone charger. At least Nitecore made a second version of the charger, with USB-C, pretty quickly (though in typical Nitecore fashion, it's still just labeled "UMS4" - no mention of any change at all).

Heat will become a factor with a big emitter

Couple days ago got a S21E in 4000K W5050SQ5 emitter with a 10degree TIR.
That emitter works really/really well, the best of any I'v got with that optic. REALLY IMPRESSED

If you get S21E w/ W5050SQ5 and a 10degree flat TIR or maybe 15degree bead you'll luv it.
If you like cool tint, you can do either 6500 or 5000K

A standard anodize tailcap used in a MAO (grey or white) S21E will do lockout,,, tried it yesterday.
the lego aspect of flashlights is entertaining/fun (put a grey tailcap on a white MAO, looks purposeful)🤓

Also, the tactical forward switch you can buy works great,
you just lose the press & hold from side switch MOON option,, small loss & that's ok.

You got any experience with the XHP50 / -70 emitters? Any example size lights that is able to handle it?
I didn't know the XHP70 was as big as being a 7x7 mm (or 7070) die, but that sure explains why it gets hot - and puts out as many Lumen as it does.

I am considering a XHP70.3 HI 3000K in an Emisar DA1K (LumeX1 driver and frosted optics - N261W, I believe?), and wonder whether that is a good idea.

Not interested in a hotrod (and am willing to sacrifice some of the Ra-value, going CRI 70 or something, for more Lumens if Hank has such a bin), just curious to see what it can do versus the Convoy M21H, SFT-70 with 24° bead TIR (I LOVED the beam profile of the 24° TIR in that light!).

Yes:: several in XHP70 (domed & domeless) and a couple in XHP50.
Interesting, one of my 50s' is in an old Convoy L series,, has to be around 8~9 years old now.
Last year got a newer L series with a XHP70 HI

Most of my other 70s' are in Acebeam lights.
>Mid sized lights for 50, more full size for 70

There are alot of interesting emitters now, Luminus is leading now in my opinion.
LMP brand is the best value, by alot __ in 4000K, bliss.

btw, my second Convoy ever was a M21H, it's one of two nightstand light I use nightly. I forget the emitter, but it's warmer tint

Thank you.

Checking closer, I see I have some XHP lights myself already.
Acebeam H15 headlamp - XHP70.2
Fenix TK75 2018 - XHP35 HI
Sofirn Q8 Plus and IF23 - XHP50B

And I already like everyting about the H15, so I will get back in my box and consider the DA1K some more. 🙂
Can't splurge more on new lights before I get the bill for the work done on my car - my brand new Osram PX-5 DRLs worked for some 3 months before they stopped working. Turned out to be a damaged wire. So I got that fixed 2 days ago, plus some other work.

This is a good review thread of Convoy. I don't have one yet but I think I'll have one soon. :D
EVERYONE should own a Convoy S2+ at some point in their life. Everyone!

Mine is so old I should probably file down its metal beard soon, and I haven't used it in years, but...I ain't letting it go - else I would no longer own a Convoy S2+. ^^

I can also recommend the S21E.

My favourite emitters would be 519A 1800K, and SFT-70 3000K. SFT-70 5000K is also great, but at the cost of reduced colour rendering vs. the 3000K version.
The SFT-70 got more Lumen than the 519A and is a better all-rounder, but I would also like everyone to experience the beauty that is the 519A 1800K on their nightstand (no need to go crazy like I have - the S21E, 519A 1800K with a diffuser is excellent).

Also a big fan of the S21E
For smaller lights I really prefer smaller emitters.
I know it's a preference thing

While back said I purchased the 23.5mm TIR separately, It came with a 'white holder' that wasn't in the picture...
The bottom wasn't flat (has like two mounting feet or cutouts) so I put a piece of fine sandpaper down and sanded it flush by hand.

Doing that, I was able to keep the lens and the 15degree bead TIR works super with a SFT-25R (mine is 5000K)
nice diffused hotspot and that tapers well

did that last night ^^^

Convoy has started getting the Luminus SFT-60 emitter in some of their lights.
I find smaller & mid-sized emitters interesting (SFT-60 being 5050 mid-sized)
..a Cree 70.3 is 7070 size

I'll take 15A for around 4500lm--- or more
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!

Which light?
+

L21A

M21B

M21C

The driver Simon developed is a version of the 3V 20.5A buck used in other lights.
for the SFT60, he made a 3v 15A buck,, 45W to a 5050 size emitter = good times

For just under $27 got a M21B in gray with the SFT60,, that's approx. 4500lm on high from a duty size light ~ Holy *^&(
uses a smo reflector

I'll use a EVE 50PL 21700 me gots on hand

edit: believe it comes as 0.1%, 1%, 10%, 35%, 100%____ that can be changed to 1%, 20%, 100% or others,
has memory
