I have been referred to your forum for help on a project I am working on. I am trying to drive a Luxeon III LED at 3.9 volts and 1000 mAh with 3 X AA NiMH rechargeable batteries @ 4.2 Volts total. I believe I am looking for the BadBoy M1000 step-up converter, but am unsure if this is the correct board. Does this board exist, and where can I purchase it? Could someone with experience with this please explain the draw-backs and issues that might make this choice more or less plausible? Does anyone have a more effective idea. TIA for any help.

3XAA's sounds to me like a good setup for direct drive. As a general matter, when using a boost converter, such as the BadBoy, you want to make sure that the Vin does not exceed Vf.

I have to warn you though, a BadBoy running at 1A will generate LOTS of heat in addition to the heat generated by the luxeon. The revision 4's do anyway. I'm still waiting to see what the new circuits will be like.

I wanted to utilize a converter board instead of direct drive to even out the current (BB=current regulated) and give a more even light out-put over the life of the batteries. I can use different NiMH batteries to give me a total of 3.6 V. Would that work? And do they make a 1000 mAh version?
