Am I wrong to assume that a parallel led pair in series with a third led would work? I feel like I'm overlooking something very basic here. Then again, this hasn't been my most intelligent week!

A project I'm considering would use one of the xp-g triple boards from Cutter, (or maybe 3 separate) with series/parallel switching. One dpdt to switch the first and second between series and parallel, another to switch the second and third between series/parallel, with a 500 ma supply feeding the whole affair.

Yes it will work and you will get light. Only problem is that the 3rd LED will get twice the current of the other two and will be brighter. If that is not a problem, the answer is yes.
