I know it's not in the poll, but I want 700 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I doubt very much that a CR2 would last an hour on a NexGen 500 - Even tests done by other people indicate that. (See earlier posts) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Regardless of the difference in board, a NexGen convertor has pretty much the same efficiency as mine, so the runtimes should be comparably similar.

Nekomane: I wouldn't make the light be 500mA as a 'basic' setting due to the short runtime - if not very many people are interested in that setting (the thread seemed to be split about 50/50), 350mA will be what's offered. I'm just looking to see how many people are interested in what right now.

350ma. I like bright, but this is a tool--if I wanted to blind someone, I'd use a bigger light.

Why not make everyone happy and do 425 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd like to vote for 500mA with 50 or less for the low setting. I would likely up my order to 4 units if 500mA was an available option.
Thanks!

Is the 2 stage switch still planned? I could probably live with 500ma if there is a low level but if just one level then definitely 350ma.

My vote is for the 500ma setting. I find I use the low setting on my Larry Light for 90% of my needs and the high setting is only used occasionally when actually needed and the extra power may come in handy.A single cell seems to last me about 2 months which is plenty.

Hot hot will it get? That won't be known until right before production, since people who will get these to review will have means of measuring temperature - I don't have that kind of equipment. 350mA is warm, over 100 degrees on the Arc LS I've got. 500mA is hot, makes my hands sweat after being on a while, from Arc LS Mods I've done at that setting.

Keep in mind the Arc LS converter was significantly less effecient than the new converter is supposed to be. If the new converter delivers 95% efficiency (which would be very impressive), then it'd be even more efficient than a NexGen. I've got a NG866 TWOH in my FireFly, and during my average 2-3 minutes of daily use it barely gets warm. A few percentage points of effeciency can make a huge difference in heat production.

For the record, I'm with cy - I'd like to see 700mA. Hell, I really like my 866 - I'd take that. Maybe the real problem is that there is no solution that will please everybody. I do not envy you the position of having to choose. I wish there was a way that we could each choose the mA we wanted.

500mA is probably the minimum level that I would be interested in purchasing.

I hope you'll do some tests with the Batterystation $1.25 CR2's, since that's the only source of low cost CR2's that I know of. Surefire doesn't sell CR2's. If 500 mA only gets reasonable runtime with Duracells that are 5x as as expensive as the Batterystation cells, I'd really feel better off with 350 mA.

I think that it needs to be clarified that a two-way switch will be standard. As such, even a shorter runtime with the 500mA may be just fine since the lower setting will run much longer.

Regards.

Personaly I don't think Lux III's are bright enough at 350ma. If I wanted Runtime I would not be buying a CR2 flashlight to begin with. But especialy since there will be a High- Low Switch , otherwise it would be a low-low switch IMO heh

Since these lights are going to be produced with a 2 stage switch I say go with a 500ma or higher high setting and something like a 100-150 low setting... that way the low setting will run for a couple hours and will probably be used most. This is not going to be one of those leave by my bed because I don't want to affect my night vision type lights. This is a keychain light. It is I need to see where the hell I am going and where the keyhole is to put my keys into. To light the pathway to your house or to your car.

I say go with a higher high and a higher low....so to speak.

My only concern will be the puke green or yellow color you may get from running a LUX III at 100 ma or lower. The lower the current the more you see the color shift in the luxeon.

Isn't the Larry Light built with something like 520/110 or something like that? I haven't heard any of the very few owners complain at all about the runtime or the fact that it is too bright. I could be wrong however. Is so, someone please feel free to correct me.

Thanks

Curtis

I'd go as low as 250 if I were asked ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm with these guys, since this light will not take rechargeables!
Running a little keychain flashlight SHOULD be cheaper than making a phonecall overseas...

So then if you have 500/200 you'd have it all?

I agree...

I just know I'll be turnin' that lil' switch on full all the time anyways, plus I would like an emitter with the whitest tint that suits the lower milliAmps.

I agree that 500/200 would be perfect,at least for my uses and my experience with Batterystations inexpensive Cr2s is completely satisfactory.

The other reason lower may suit me better is that I hold lights between my teeth, sometimes for quite awhile, and the low may be too dim while the high will be too hot...
