I was browsing through Reference Designs on the Cree website tonight when I came across a link to a TEMPO report. Cree Services offers TEMPO testing and evaluation of LED Luminaires/Bulbs.

They have been promoting this heavily in the past, but I have not heard them pushing it as much lately. It is an interesting tear down and would make a good final verification for more difficult to verify products, though some items, i.e. x-ray of the solder joint, are only representative of the sample, not of all builds. As Cree now is NVLAP, that does give you your LM79 which has value for Energy Star, DLC, etc. It will all come down to price to. I have not checked with them lately on the price.... note to self.

I would expect with Cree in the fixture business now, some are leary of allowing them to get this deep into your product even if it should be kept completely independent and confidential from the LED group and the products group.

The most comprehensive report, TEMPO 24 is $1300. I also read somewhere that they accept luminaires built with non Cree LEDs for testing.

Yes they do accept non Cree fixtures. Build customer trust then try to sell them .... works best!

$1300 is fairly reasonable considering it includes LM79 from an NVLAP lab.
