Im looking for some low cost lights that will accept D26 lamp assy's. 18mm tube would be nice, but 17mm is ok too. Just looking for some hosts so I can compare Li ion batts and lamp assys head to head in practical use without having to keep switching parts back and forth.

I would consider the Wolf Eyes flashlights. You can buy it from Mike@PTS if you are in the U.S.A. or Glen C if you are in another country. Here is the link PTS. http://www.pts-flashlights.com/category.aspx?uid=1

If you are really trying to save money then try www.dealextreme.com or www.kaidomain.com.

im thinking dealextreme... but they don't specify which ones take this style lamp

I think most of the Ultrafire/Superfire lights take D26 bulbs. If you want something strong and tough, then a Wolfeyes Sniper is what you want.

Just check out mdocod's recent thread for the best and most detailed body options available.

for a 1x18650 host that takes a D26 lamp, the cheapest available at this time is a "JALL" from DX.

Other than that, most of the cheap options are going to take 17mm cells. Ultrafire/Superfire are your cheapest bets, they aren't built like SFs, but they are pretty cheap. The Maxfire mentioned is also a great little 2xCR123/1x17670 host that is available locally in most places (target) for about $17.

As far as UF lights go, from the pictures I have seen, it appears that the 501 series might be built slightly better than the 502 series. as shown on this page.. http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/xenon-lights-c-133.html You'll see WF501"X" where X= A-D, the A-D is for the number of cells. I think DX/kaidomain/ebay has some of these lights for cheaper, shop around. Might be able to pick up one of each size, combined under $40 shipped.

The Ultrafire/Superfire numbering system isn't as simple or as logical as that. I suspect its riddled with mistakes or obscure meanings.
I have a Superfire WF501D (4 cell) which appears identical to an Ultrafire WF 503B. These take 17 mm cells. I also have an Ultrafire WF 502D (4 cell)which easily accepts 18mm cells as do my WF502C (3 cell) and WF 501C (3 cell). I prefer the 502 series to the others assuming of course that the ones I have are representative of what the next batch looks and feels like. The 502 series I have are solidly built, have a fine checkered semi matte finish (rather than the coarse checkered gloss of the other series) and have a pocket clip as well as other less obvious differences. I bought several more to put aside because I liked them so much and the price (from Kai) was a bargain.

in looking at pictures, it looked like the 502 series had a really cheesey tail-cap spring that scared me.... other than that, sounds great! I wasn't aware that any of these bodies were fitting 18mm cells... I have asked various sellers this question many times for the new series and nobody has responded.

The pocket clip/spring is actually quite substantial and it's attached to the body not the tail cap. The screws seem a bit small but haven't failed yet. The clip is not really designed for a belt carry, its more like a EDC folding knife clip/spring designed to fit in a pocket. Need a deep pocket for the D ( 4 cell) models.

I have a few Superfire/Ultrafire torches, none take 18mm. I also think Wolf Eyes might be the cheapest 18mm compatable
