De-domed LEDs with optics?

So I saw this idea in another thread, but does anyone had comparison (maybe before/after) beamshots of optics (be they tri or quad or a single) with de-domed LEDs?

It'd probably be worth it with the XP-E2 line. Thoughts?

Theoretically, the main thing that the die size would determine is the size of the hotspot, which is constructed with light reflected off the sides of the TIR, and the size of the corona, which is constructed using a refracting lens in the center of the TIR to focus more light into the hotspot which would just go to flood in a reflector setup. Smaller apparent size of the LED would mean smaller images after the optic.

Would be very interested in beamshots, too!

don't bother with xpe2, they are already small. not to mention with dedoming, you gain throw but loose the intensity. also it creates flaws in the beam. it makes sence to do with large die leds, but xpe has a tiny one to begin with.
