For some reason the pcb or ptc tripped on my brand new cell. I get a 70- 80 mv reading from it. Could i reset the pcb on it? ? It wont charge in mt pila. I get a solid red light and a faint green light when i insert in the charger, pushing the reset button does not do anything.

I'm fairly new and most likely cannot help figure why your protection tripped, but I had a couple questions about this occurrence.

What were you doing when the trip occurred?
Do you have any voltage readouts before the trip?

Thanks! And sounds like you should be grabbing a new cell for free.

i was swapping heads around on my wolf eyes m90 rattle snake light. the cells were still in the tube when i was that. i also had the light in the refridge before i swapped heads fomr the d36 head t oa d52 mce led head. maybe condensation caused it. im sure the cell itself was fine but the pcb went bad.

maybe the moisture tripped the pcb. but anyways i could ask for a new cell and send the old one back.

You could contact the seller and see if they will send you a new battery. I usually just unwrap the cell and remove the pcb and use it in a flashlight that can safely use unprotected batteries like Zebralight.

That Panasonic underneath is still a heck of a battery if you are comfortable using it without the protection circuit.

Hey there Chewy78

Try connecting two of the cells (a working one and the tripped one) in "parallel" for a second or two - you can do this by placing both cells standing "upright" on a metal surface (kitchen / laundry sink for example) and placing a piece of metal (fork, knife etc) across the positive ends.

I've used this technique to reset a PCB for an AW 18650 cell that had tripped, and also for a solarforce rcr123.

Hope this helps mate - worth trying as its free and won't damage anything.

Cheers

I appreciate the tip!
I just pulled a new Eagletac 3100 out of the box and found it 'dead', connected it in parallel as you suggested and voila! it's ok and charging now.'
Cheers to you, mate!

Usually the charger should reset the protection circuit...
