Hi,

I purchased a Dereelight DBS V3 probably about a year ago. I got it with the aspherical lens, XR-E (i think R2) and the 1SM pill to use 2x18650 batteries with the extension tube. While this amazes all my friends... it really doesnt have much practical use :). I am going to pick up a new head for it but it seems they have changes around their options a bit since i bought it. This is what I want:

1. I dont want to use 2x18650 batteries anymore (i would prefer to use 1x18650 and if I must 2x18350). I find it just too long with 2x18650
2. I still want lots of throw so I was going to stick with the XR-E, however they said they only have the Q5s now, no more R2s. Will this make a difference? Is it worth waiting to see if they get more R2s in stock?
3. I am unsure if I should get the 1S (im leaning towards this one) or the 1SM pill. The 1S runs at 1.2A the 1SM runs at 1.5A. Will this amperage difference make a noticeable different in brightness? IF so I guess i would get the 1SM pill and use 2x18350s... but I prefer to use 1x18650.

What ill be using it for:
This will be used for when I take my dog for walks at night. I take him to a park which is pitch black... and also walk along the cliff (which is why I want decent throw). My XM-L 2D Maglight is just too big and I am hoping for more than what im getting out of what I currently use, my PD32 XP-G. I dont want the extending tube as I want this to be able to fit in my coat pocket.

Thanks

Dereelight doesn't use R2s anymore as Cree has stopped producing them. I guess the q5 is the only option for the XRE now

If youre going for a single 18650 dereelight with reflector with a good throw, just get the XML version. the other LED's with a much lower output may throw further, but the spot is so weak already. (if you go Dereelight reflectorized thrower)

though you may want to check around for other single 18650 throwers like the new Lumintop Hunter T5 which has a badass lux of 33k, one of the higher reflectorized throwers in the market and it does it with a XPG2 R5 led. (this is on my wishlist) the Xeno G4, Crelant V9CS (22-24k lux)

Thanks. I took a look at a tiablo a9 review with a chart with all the readings. I was surprised to see the xre doesn't throw much more than the XML. Maybe I will just grab the XML as this will give me much more flood

Do yourself a favor and get nailbenders xpg2 pill for dbs (5000k 3D) It is outstanding! I have several DBS and pills, and like this one the best. You can run on 1x18650 just tell him the voltage you want. Nailbenders xml is great too, but less throw than xpg2, hope this helps

The XM-L can only be run at 1.2A off one 18650 for the dereelights. Would it still be worth getting the XM-L even when it is only being run at 1.2A?

I was considering a dropin too... But I do not have a reflector for this light... And am unsure if the reflector provided will fit the DBS

I ended up going a completely different direction and got the 7G5v2. I am now realizing the bezel diameter may be a little bigger than desired to have it in my coat pocket during dog walks but i will have to see.

I told myself 5 lights was enough for me... These flashlights really are addicting.
