If the Husky is rated at 2.25m, then it's likely a 12 v 100 watt, since most manufactures exaggerate 6v only up to 1.5m and then with 12v they start at 1.5 and work there way up to a ridiculous 3.5m with one bulb.

The correct answer is to keep them both and then buy more!

Have you compared the beams yet?

I bought one of the Husky lights in question, and proceeded to rip it apart as aoon as I got home... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif It's got a nice beam to it, and totally outclasses my LSI 1.5M. It is definately a 12V 100W bulb, with a vertical filament (looking down into it from the front). The front lens is glass, not sure what the reflector is made out of, didn't think to look while I had it apart. I did take a bunch of pics of the innards though, so if anyone wants them, let me know and I'll email them out. Sorry, I'm in-between hosting companies right now, so I can't post them. For some more details on the Husky: The reflector is stamped steel, shiny side looks to be chrome plated. If you are using the wall wart charger, the jack disables light operation. The light also comes with a cigarette lighter cord that connects directly to the internal battery for charging (will also power parts of your vehicle through the lighter jack, don't ask! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif ) All the internal high-power wiring is cheap 18GA, but the switch is nice; it's a full-on paddle-lever SPDT microswitch rated at, get this, 24V/12A! The battery is your standard ultra-generic 12V/3AH gel. The charge / indicator circuit is based on an LM339N chip. The bulb is a vertical filament H3 rated at 12V/100W, and is retained with a spring clip arrangement in the reflector. It only has one wire, the negative lead from the light is attached to the reflector with a screw. The lamp / reflector assembly is a little shy of 3" deep, leaving all that internal space for custom guts... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif The battery-to-bulb circuit also has a fuse in it, I don't know the size, I don't want to remove the heatshrink.

In regards to the aux light on the bottom of the handle, that is an all plastic affair, using metallic coating for the reflecive surface. Might be decent for a 5mm LED mod, but definately not suited for even 1W emitter territory. Also, the only times the power meter lights up is when the wall wart charger is plugged in, or the aux light is turned on. The only time the green LED comes on at all is when full charge is attained with the wall wart, or your input voltage with the cigarette cord is over the full charge setpoint. With the wall wart, mine comes on for about half a second, then goes out, then comes back a second later, in this repeating pattern.

A note on the battery: It seems to be a semi-custom version. The printing is oriented so that the terminals would be on the long/skinny side (ala 12V/7AH brick style), but this side has a recessed cover on it, and the terminals are on the smallest dimension side (ala 6V/4AH style) but grouped together on the one edge like the 7A brick.

Also, in taking it apart: That little rubber grip sleeve is a pain in the wazoo to get on and off! I ripped a chunk out of mine the first time I removed it. It's necessary to remove it to open the light because two of the seven assembly screws are underneath it... Under the red rubber lens surround there is also a plastic retaining ring for the lens and it's o-ring seal, which is held on with two more small screws.

How does the Husky compare to the Q beam 1mcp I got from Wallmart? Since it's better that a 1.5mcp I would think it would be much better. My Q beam takes FOREVER to charge!! (36hrs I think) Is that normal for these spotlights or is it just the Brinkmans?

The only Qbeam I ever had was a 1M corded with no battery. My LSI 1.5M puts out a lot more light than the Qbeam ever did, but then the Husky belts out more than my LSI does, too! Turns out they both have the same power ratings on their bulbs, 12V/100W.

As far as charging, I usually hook my lights up to my 14V regulated bench supply for much quicker charging, but the 300mA rated wall wart that is included with the Husky should fill it up in 12 hours or less.

A 36 hour charge time is awfully long, you sure you don't have the wrong charger?

I'm using the charger that came with it. A 7.5vdc/350mA wall charger or cigarette lighter adaptor. The instruction booklet says, "Charge battery for at least 36hrs to fully charge. Do not charge for more than 48hrs"
The battery is 6v 4.5AH. NiCad I guess. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gif

Edit: It's not a NiCad. I just found out it's a lead acid battery.

Given the output ratings of your charger and the capacity of your battery, it should be fully charged from dead in about 14-15 hours, less if there was some charge left...
