I have an aluminum tube that is .477 inches O.D.

What would be the best Die size/threads to cut into this? (preferably without the use of a lathe)

Thanks in advance..

The closest size is 1/2" - 13.

The die will not produce a "full" profile thread, as your tube would need to be between .487 - .498, but your thread will be only .005 short (on the radius) of a full thread, so it should work fine.

1/2-13

Class 2A thread

Major diameter Min 0.4876"

Major diameter Max 0.4985"

sorry for jumping on your thread but i would like to know what size die i would need to make treads for a surefire 6p copy is this called a C or P series
would like to do something with the odd aluminum tent pole i have
Sorry again for jumping on your thread:confused::poke:

Gordon, you could use a 1/2-20 thread die also. There are many tap and die charts on the web. Check out 12MM threads also. 12MM = 0.472" which means you may have to sand a little off the OD of the tube.
