Guys I did some searching but still have some questions. I am looking for a light to use on duty (deputy sheriff) to replace my Inova T4 and Gladius. I do not have room for both on my duty belt. I was looking at the Wolf Eyes Sniper lights. There are two different lights available. One has an output of 190 lumes and the other is 260 lumens. I plan on using this light for some time time to come and need it to last. I also like the strobe mode option. Is the added lumenss needed for the price and my job? Also how about heat from the brighter light. I then found a Wolf Eyes Defender. I like the look of this light better but plan on carring the light in an asp holder provided it fits. My Inova T4 fits great. I was worried about my uniform shirt rubbing on the strike bezel of the Derender. I was also going to get the rechargable version of which ever light I get. I guess I don't even know what I want and am looking for. Any and all input from you guys would be great.

I have also narrowed my off duty cary light purchase to a Fenix L1D or L0D. I was thinking about the AAA version and wondered if I could just run a standard local store bought rechargable AAA through it with good performance and ok run times.:duh2: Thanks Jon

Any thoughts guys this waiting to order is almost as bad as having to pay for them!!!!:mecry:

Re: Difference in Wolf Eyes Sniper lights help? Lumens Difference?

The sniper will fit in the ASP holder, but if you use the same one as the T4 it will be way to long.
Just get another smaller holder.

The abrasion to the shirt is a real concern. My handcuff pouches have worn my uniform shirt thin.

As for the light? Brighter is always better on duty. here in Houston we have a lot of cars with tinted windows (window film) I want my lights to be able to penetrate that and let me see inside.

Thanks I was just wondering if it had gotten to overkill bright? I was also worried about heat? Thanks Jon

I agree with Madecov, regardless of what some say on CPF i don't think there is such a thing as too bright for duty use, go the Q5 (260 lumen) that way you are getting the best you can at the moment.

I have a 190 lumen Defender, while it is nice i don't find it bright enough for duty use. If you need a low output light, grab a Fenix LOD and throw it in your pocket, i use mine to write traffic infringement notices and alike when my Raider is to bright.

If you want to keep your ASP holder you could always look at a Raider which is probably a little closer to the T4 size, and adds more runtime to the light. The Defender is a nice light i don't like the extra length, especially when putting it on your belt, that the bezel adds for little purpose.

The L0D-CE Q4 would work fine with alkaline batteries (shorter runtime on all the modes and less regulated), but if you use it often, NiMh would be a cheaper option. 8% off coupon at Fenix Store is "CPF8".

More output would always be better. Unless you work close range with night adapted eyes.

:welcome:

Very good point......."tinted car windows", I wonder which is the better light for this situation.....a LED or an Incan.....anybody done any tests on this?.....well, looks like I have something to do tonight...:)

Well huys I had some trouble deciding on things. I went ahead and got the W. E. Sniper with 260 lumens and 100% or strobe. I also went ahead and got both the L0D and L1D. My birthday is a comming and I talked my way into getting one from the wife one from the parents and one from her parents!!!! I also went out and got 4 eneloops in AA aand 4 Duracell rechargeable AAA, The duracells said that they were new and would hold a charge for a year. If they make AAA Eneloops Wllyworld did not have them. Now I will have to wait till my birthday. Thanks again guys. Jon

The certainly do make AAA Eneloops, that is what i use in mine for normal use, that way i dont have to worry about recharging it regularly, the Duracells sound interesting though, maybe a new battery in competition to the Eneloop? The LOD is a great little light, very versatile and IMO a true EDC light and then when you want to impress people slip in a 10440.

Cernoblia looking forward to some more pics from you, i have been to lazy of late to take any new pics, that said i havent had any new toys recently to take pics of. Maybe when you get our Fox you can add it to your beam shot collection :poke::D

I find the Q5 to be just about bright enough to use on traffic. It just gives enough light to get through most legal tint.

When the newest R bins above R2 are released that's when I'll upgrade.

I'm even considering a Fenix T1 and the new Typhoon II.

I've been carrying the Wolf Eyes FOX-1 on the duty belt, the Pelican 7060 in the car and a Surefire G2 with BOG Premium Q5 in my pocket as back up.

Since I work mostly in an urban environment I don't really need anything else.

KeepeerSD what would running the 10440 add. Also I do not understand the whole protected or unprotects thing, however I could not find any protected 10440s. Can they cause any damage to the light? Thanks Jon

a 10440 is a lithium ion 4.0V battery it will make your "pretty bright" L0D into a "WTF how can so much light come out of this thing" L0d

protection basically is a small PC-Board on top/bottom of the battery cell that protects the battery from draining too low. draining too low will damage the cell.

since the AW 10440's are not protected you need to be careful it not using the light all the way to death on the cell but charge the battery once in a while.

The one thing for sure is that I have been reading and learing a lot since I found this site. Thanks again for the links and I got some reading to do before the wife gets home and ******* that I am on the fricken computer again. (cleand up :D) Thanks Jon

Aftre reading some and understanding some of the link posted I have a queastion. I ordered the Snipe with the rechargeable LRB168A Li-ion battery. I am going to be using this light for duty and used it will get. Do I need to watch how I use this light abd battery. I was thinking that it was along the same line as my T4 when the regulated light went out you recharged the battery? I guess I am a little confused? Jon

Your charging habits are going to reflect how much you use the light.

With your setup, you'll have 110 minutes of constant light output - followed by 30 minutes of gradually decreasing output. I imagine a light with decreasing output is just going to irritate you; so, if you think you're going to hit that 110 minute mark at some point before the end of your next shift, you should fully charge it before you go out that day.

Wolf-Eyes batteries have protection circuits to stop you from draining the cells to dangerously low voltages, but reaching that point is not to your advantage. Just about everything in the nature of lithium-ion batteries encourages topping them off frequently - a practice which also guarantees you start your shift with the most light possible.
Just a suggestion.

Winston, maybe I will just recharge on my days off every week or sooner if I use the light a lot one night. Thanks Jon

After seeing what the specs for the new Inove T4 are I now wonder if I shoul dhave just waited for it. Waiting for my order is worse then paying for the lights.:ohgeez:

Where are the specs for the new T4? - Disregard this, i just found them. i hope their new advertised claims are a little better than the ones on my older T3.

You won't be disappointed in the Sniper
