Do new headlights come somewhat aligned?

I found a new set of headlights so I caved in and purchased them. I did this to get a fresh start and rule out a few things. I was just wondering if headlights tend to come at least somewhat aligned for the vehicle that they are supposed to be installed on or if I can expect them to be completely and randomly out of wack.

I'd at least like to turn them on and see if the beam pattern is better than it was before, so that I can tell whether or not I might need to start replacing other parts.

No, there's no such thing as a pre-aligned headlamp such as you seem to have in mind. You must aim the headlamps once they're installed on the car. You don't mention what kind of car or lights you're working with, but here is a page that covers most types you're likely to encounter.

Thanks for the heads up. Headlights are not marked "VOL, VO or VOR". I have tried that procedure to get my headlights roughly adjusted and it seemed to work good for the old driver's headlight but not the "problem" passenger side. I guess that I can try that again now prior to getting the car over to a beamsetter.

1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 using "improved" 1993 Galant headlamps.

So does the deluded babble about how Japan-spec headlamps are just fine and great, there's no glare if you turn the aim down low, I've never been flashed and mine aren't turned down low, seeing distance is terrific, etc.

All we need now is to get reliable data about how they saw the deer that they wouldn't have seen before. Remember, an anecdote is an anecdote, but if it's a CSB (Cool Story, Brah!), then it's DATA and OBVIOUSLY they know what the facts are. All this chicanery is expected from a fanboy forum-- but even "TunersNation" is guilty of the misuse of "USDM".
