I live 35 miles from NYC in rural, NW New Jersey. No street lights, lots of critters (bear, deer, turkey) woods and water. Need the car to get or to do anything, however. If I could stay home all the time, it would be paradise. But I commute to within 2 miles of NYC to work and traffic is terrible. Taxes are surpisingly high too,... because of all the low lifes in Paterson and Passaic I guess.

I like my neighborhood in South Minnie. I'm practically downtown, yet I have very reasonably priced rent. My neighborhood is full of decently kept/restored old brick apartment and condo buildings, there are relatively few freaks hanging out here at night (it's not a drug and thug hot spot, that's 6 blocks over), there's a strong neighborhood watch/organization group (for a 75/25 rental/owner ratio, anyway), and there are movies and music in the park once a week in the summer.

I've lived here almost 3 1/2 years now. I won't be staying here forever, but I don't see any reason to move until I buy my own place.

Northern NJ-I hate it. Takes 1/2 hr to get to the supermarket because of traffic and assholes. Arrogant, rude people. Rains too much. A 'diversity' problem-NMESH. (not much English spoken here) with the crime to go with it. Turning into a third world hovel. Police state where there are no 2nd amendment rights. Motor vehicle emission BS-looks like I'll be driving one illegally soon. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I work nights locally because I just don't want to bother with anyone and no traffic then, or bosses.

Going to high school across the street from the beach (I went to Seaside High) was cool. If it wasn't for the pretty high cost, and the California political climate I'd miss it more. But I do like Washington a bit more. I really just miss the lack of real beaches.

I live in the NW corner of GA. I live in the southern part of the App. Mtns. It is great for me because I love outdoor activities. Also, I live just outside a midsized city. The only thing I would change is that it would be warmer in the winter. And if it is not warmer maybe it would snow more than an inch (over 4 or 5 tries) during the entire winter. But I like it a lot.
