Does Lithium Button Cells leak ?

do Lithium button cells leak? yes and no. In my experience they do not leak obvious fluids like an Alkaline cell would.

However there is a "whiteish" crusty powder seepage usually found at the boundary between + and - which can render an electrical connection questionable. In that case, remove the cell and wipe the cell with a cloth. Also clean the device contacts with a cotton swab (Q-Tip). A quick check with a voltmeter will indicate whether you could replace that cell briefly while you acquire a replacement cell. If the cell has a lot of that crusty powder on it's surface, I would not re-insert the cell.

Voltages of Lithium button cells, such as the 2016 or 2032? A new cell has in the area of 3.2-3.3V. I would not re-insert any cell with less than 2.9v. replacement is better.

I've had one case of a lithium button cell leaking enough fluid to corrode the circuitry in a wrist watch.
