Maybe you have a counterfeit NUWAI.
:-)

I know my Nuwai has a real LuxeonStar-1.....It's an early model with the large round die. And it's ugly yellow.
I WISH my Nuwai came with a fake Lux-1, the ones I have are whiter and brighter!!

hmm... are you sure you got a nuwai? can you tell us where you got it?

to wng: yeah, my fake luxeon III has a nice beam too :p white and brighter btw..

Nuwai lights use genuine Luxeons but definitely not premium bins. FYI the TM-301x-3 comes with an S-binned star, very disappointing.

Yup, my fried 301x-3 led is in front of me. Real Luxeon. S-bin.

I got it from amondotech about 1 yr ago. The tint is very green. It doesn't say nuwai but none of my nuwais from wayne do.It says(5 watt led torch)The star was glued in place but the glue stuck to the heat sink and the bottom of the star is free from glue. There is no sign of any printing at all.None of the packages that they came in say nuwai either although they all have nuwai #s. this one says ALX 654C on the package. Some of the packages say luxeon made in america and some just say luxeon.

I don't remember seeing a nuwai light labeled nuwai on it, Nuwai sorta sells unnamed lights to other companies, who then etch their names on it.

Actually, the process that is similar and most familiar to many people on this site are the generic Taiwanese computer components that used to be sold with various brand names on the packaging, but no names on the components themselves.

That would be similar to what Nuwai is doing, they buy a generic flashlight from one of the Chinese manufacturers, and then put it into their own packaging for resale. Having to etch their name on the light itself is probably an unneeded expense that they just do not bother with. Other companies who buy lights from the same manufacturer as Nuwai may want to have some sort of branding placed on their products, so they will either pay to have it done at the factory or have it done at another Chinese location before shipping them to their destination for resale.

All the Q3s I've seen have real Luxeons.

BTW, I've been told by a Nuwai seller that Nuwai buys the Q3 (and most of their lights) from Shykuang (mfr).

Shykuang probably isn't the manufacturer either. Just another company reselling the lights. Shykuang comes up as a 20 person company that's located in Taiwan; they're not even in China. That's one of the problems with the Chinese resellers, they all tend to claim to be the manufacturer, I've even run into that little fib with immigrant merchants here in the states whether it be computer components or golf club heads. If you ask them who the manufacturer is, the response is often "We manufacturer, you buy direct, less money." All of which is a lie, of course.

Well thats one thing I'll say about surefire you know where it's made and you know where to send it when it fails. But who knows some of their parts may be made overseas too.

Even some of Mag's parts are made overseas. There's no way you're going to avoid it these days, they don't call it a global economy for nothing.

And while I don't own any Surefire products, I understand from the postings on this site that their warranty service is as good as you might expect from the overseas exporters.

Usually to the retailer who may honor the warranty (or more likely they'll just choose to ignore you. I'd guess you'd probably have a 60/40 chance of being ignored.) Don't expect to send it to Nuwai, they probably don't have any inventory or any means of replacing it. Warranties are seldom honored in Asian countries, and the people there don't expect it to be. I've been in contact with some people in Singapore who returned defective merchandise to a local manufacturer, waited 2-4 weeks, and then got a replacement product that was all beat up and in worse shape that the one that they submitted for warranty, then they were told that their original was no longer available. And to top it all off, their replacement just had some other defect.

Yeah but I wouldn't even know where to send my nuwais.
