i havent really done any major testing, but i simply removed the driver from one of my dorcy 1aaa, connected a bat and an old ugly greenie luxeon...and it lit up both the luxeon and the 5mm led.

the 5mm led dimmed some, and the luxeon was fairly bright, but probably underdriven.

still, i think it might be useful--somehow.

i wonder how it would do using 3v/2aa? for $6, i am not overly concerned about trashing it...but i hate to trash any light i consider good right out of the box.

Bob, I've measured 280mA into a low Vf luxeon from this circuit powered by 2.75V input and 336mA at an input of 3.0V.
There is some info that may be useful in this thread:

Dorcy 1AAA circuit

wow!

sooo...can i use one to power a LS in a 2d light? i know the circuit is probably not terribly efficient, but it is really cheap! and with 2d, i wouldnt worry too much about less efficiency.

GREAT info on that circuit, Doug!
