Dorcy 220 mod question

I have had this light for some time now, I replaced the nicad with NiMH. It pretty much just sits on the window sill by our bird feeders to watch the night shift of wild life.
Anyway It has the XRE Q4 in it, I ordered a XML-T6 from DX for it, just want to ask a question. The XRE has a 3.5 fv as does the XML, from what I have read the Dorcy is pretty much direct drive but for a resistor( I get 3.42v at the led with it on). The XML should be fine like this right? This light will never be on for more then 1-3 min at a time, the XML should make the now very tight hot spot bigger and more spill right?

I've got a few of the Dorcy 220's but have yet to mod them. The XML should be a great fit for this torch. I just put a DX XML in an old Dorcy 3D but wish I would have tried it in the 220. I'm gonna try it when I get back from the 10 day hunting trip I'm on right now. Please post results if ya get it done in the next few days.

I will Fish, but I just ordered 2 of them from DX last night, so it will be a least a week to ten days for them to get here from China.

Done several months ago. DX XM-L transplanted from a failed SKU 58481. No other modifications done to the host; just trimmed the XM-L's MCPCB and soldered it in place. With the original battery pack fully charged I measured 417 Lumen peak OTF at around 1.5 amps draw at the tailcap (IIRC). Tight-ish spot...yes. More spill...no, but brighter. Beam is a bit ringy with an ugly transition from spot to spill, still usable though.

Thanks! That's just the info I wanted. The stock led produces a somewhat ringy beam anyway, so I am expecting that to be exacerbated. Is the hot spot bigger than stock?

If you're careful what you can do is mist automotive clear coat over the reflector. Mist it very lightly so it frosts at first, let it dry a couple minutes then lightly mist it again and keep misting til you get the desired orange peel strength. Let it completely dry overnight in a warm area before installing so it won't gas out when you use the light.

The best thing about doing this is once it's clear coated completely over, it's protected too so you don't have to worry nearly as much when you touch the reflector, I touched mine and got a finger print, but I just used some automotive wax to clean it up and it shined right up.
