Double Barrel 8AA - Now What?

Hello Lemlux,
nice to hear from you again!
I have an idea for battery, why not A? as the lenght is the same as AA so it fit well in DBs. as well a sanyo nimh has 2700mah (1k more then AA).. so may be a P91 with 8A will give around 40min light..
any comment?

A's are perfect. I've previously posted that I was able to buy a number of 7.2 V battery packs full of 6 @ Sanyo 2.450 "minimum" 2.700 "typical" A cells for between $2.50 a pack and $5.00 a pack. I've dissassembled these for the DB's.

I'm going one step further. A's require either a universal charger that accomodates C batteries or a pack charger with a charging cable.

When I wire the next batches of DB 8AA's and DB 6AA's to serial I will install a recharging socket opposite the switch. This will be particularly useful when loading a DB8AA with 6 @ 3800 mAh 4/3 A Sanyo NiMHs. The 4/3 A cells are a pain in the A** to charge otherwise because battery holders aren't made for them and they are too long for a universal charger.


As for the P91, it runs very brightly with 6A's in my DB6AA / P91 mod. I think 8 cells would blow the lamp. In a DB8AA with 6@ 4/3 A cells the P91 with its 2.35 A drain should run for more than 90 minutes.

cool making recharge contact is a good idea, I recall long ago... my friend has made a rechargable MagAA with 3 2/3AA and drill a hole on the tail cap to add a contact for a power supply.. just like a mini mag rechargable..

besides I buy some small ring make by the red fibre I think it is the same as the solder mask. to add on the bulb pin (6V 10W) to save it to melt the plastic socket on the DB, this time it pass the 5min burn.

How did your friend get both the terminal negative and positive charging contacts out of the tailcap? I would imagine it's easier to accomplish nearer the head.

too bad I lost contact with my friend already almost 6years ago..

in my memory, the socket is like the headphone socket 1 hole with 2 connection.
then when charging just insert in a common power supply ,those 1 pin with 2 connection.

yes I think it is easier to charge it by replace the bulb with charger then turn on the swicth..

I just took out the plastic AA battery holders to see if 123 batteries will fit. Dang! 12 123s fit pretty well! Now what?

This could be the start of something big...I just don't know what lamp with fit in it and handle that much juice.
Any ideas?

Those are all very interesting setup ideas and everything, but even with the "only six 123s" version lemlux so kindly made for me out of a 4AADB, the thing will melt reflectors and lenses within a few minutes if left on. So going w/twelve 123s, especially in series, would be a disaster waiting to happen unless you find suitable retrofit metal reflectors and glass lenses to go with them.
