Must have comparison versus UKE 2AAA! I imagine these are not expensive, if I happen to run across one, I'll pick it up and compare to my UKE 2AAA. Princeton Tec also has a side-by-side 2AAA, which is actually brighter than the UKE (at least my sample is), but the lamp is a bunch bigger, so it won't fit in a watch pocket.

Since that very nice sized light uses a PIN lamp, I'm already getting ideas for maybe interesting conversion to the Hi-Performance Toshiba HP-180 anber LED, that has worked so well in the past with just 2 cells....=)

They seem to be unsure about the battery size. The written description says AAA. However, if you look closely at the picture of the package, it shows 2 AAAA in the bottom right corner.

2. relatively hard to find
3. relative costly compared to AAA

VERY VERY TRUE. I have the 4AAA model and all i can say is it is a BAD flashlight. At first the light is VERY white and bright...for about 3-5 minutes. After that, the light becomes LESS impressive as time goes on... VERY quickly untill the bulb drains your batteries to about 1.2volts each - where they comfortably operate thereafter for the rest of its brightness. At that level its like watching a dying 2AA maglight...pathetic. But the light is VERY VERY strong. I have dropped it many times on tile and concrete and submersed it for a few minutes underwater to no effect to the light AND housing. Very durable but very dim. The only thing i use it for is getting up and walking to my bathroom at night. You are better off buying a decent LED flashlight, because in a years time, you'll have spent more on batteries for these doublebarells.
i'll stop my rant on these lights now...

This light will be shipping in the next week or so accoridng to Energizer. Home Depots will be first, followed by Kmart and WM.
I complained to Energizer that this product showed up on their website back in July, and we have been searching for it ever since. They stated that it was a mistake on their part, and that it was never intended for distribution until the 4thQ-2001. For my efforts, that said they were going to send me one for free. I told them that it would be better if they could first send it to Brock, Chris or Craig and the girl said I don't see a problem and asked for the adddress for all three! (Note, this was after a 20 minute conversation explaning what the LED museum is, and what the heck is Candle Power Forums etc etc.)
Morale of the story, it never hurts to ask!

7 lumens output is not bad for a 15g flashlight, but i think i would go for a LED-light instead.
The Double Barrels are good flashlights, very rough and dependable. When it comes to brightness i believe the DB 8AA is a winner in its class. It equals Pelican Black Knight M10, and beats Maglite 3D and Streamlight 3C.

How is the DB-8 "wired"? Is it 6 volts or 12. If it is 6 volts how does it compare with other 6 volt 8 battery lights like the PT surge?

The DB820 has 3,85W bulb (5,5 rated voltage). According to Energizer it produces 81 lumens, but that is probably overstated. In the engineering data it states 60 lumens, which is probably more correct. 322g without batteries is a nice weight, and i like the adjustable beam. It compares great with similar flashlights, due to its long burntime.

My local Wal Mart got them in before anyone else. It's a neat little light. The stock bulb was quickly switched for a Dorcy Krypton version. But now there is a huge shadow in the center of the spot. I think the whiter light is worth the tradeoff in beam quality. I don't know about battery runtime yet. Too new to tell.

I've got my 4AAAA DB last weekend at Walmart for US$ 4.59. The size is really impressive and it delivers more light and is shorter than a Mag Solitarie.
The batteries included are the energizer E2 Titanium Alkalines.
I noticed the circular blindspot in the middle of the projected beam with the original bulb (T1-2) too.
I haven't tested the burn time yet. With my 4AAA DB using 4 rechargeable Energizer AAAs (700mAh) I've got 2:30 hours on the second recharge. With no dim light, the light simply turn off.
I will be testing recheargeables with the 8AA DB too.

Im just fine with this thing needing AAAA batteries. If enough products get out there that need them maybe we'll finally see them in a store somewheres. It would be nice not having to mail-order them for my Stylus.
...And yes I know I can rip apart a 9 volt and fool around with stretching the sping in the stylus or create some kinda spacer but Im one of those people who would just rather have the right thing on hand instead of tinker...
