I notice in the Downboy blurb that its connectors are not laid out to match up with the LS emitter board and therefore it couldn't be used in a sandwich. Is it feasible to make a sandwich with a DB using a redesigned emitter board, either a PC board or a piece of copper clad perfboard (or maybe copper disc) with point to point wiring? Thanks.

Yep, I've made a few like that. I use a piece of brass or copper, solder the ground to the center of the new emitter board then just use small gauge wire to hook up the LS. Grounds just like a regular sandwich, but can be made a full 0.100" shorter.
