Hey folks, just wanting your opinion on this charger.
Is there a downside to this charger? Besides the price? I realize that you need the individual battery holders to charge individual batteries but I could also charge camcorder batteries and really, any battery I wanted too right? Thanks for the info. I really also like the analyzer function and discharge function. Well anyway is there a downside or something I am missing about this charger? Thanks, Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doug,

I'm glad you posted this question. I'm about to buy a 777 plus II, myself. The only downside I have heard of is that both the plus and the plus II can charge only in series. That is, there are not a large number of channels.

I asked a similar question here.

Yep, it's a single channel charger with one charge rate. Sort of 'one size fits all'. That's not always the case. For example, don't try to charge cells less than 500mAh on it.

I've had one since the ][+ mod came out and I've been very happy with it. I've used it on NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion packs, Li-ion raw cells, and flooded NiCd cells. It handled all of them just fine. Now, if it only did Lead-Acid, too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll have to answer the price question yourself, but as far as flexability and quality goes, this charger doesn't seem to have a peer. I pair it with with a Ray-O-Vac 1 Hour charger to handle all the 'volume' cell charging and leave the tripple-7 for the heavy lifting.

Oh, the ][+ does charge Li-ion cells faster than 400mAh for the first part of charge. From looking at the rates, it's more like 800mAh. Charge tapers off as voltage aproaches 4V.

Willmore,

That's helpful. Thanks. I'd be better off though I understood a couple of terms. What's the difference between "'volume' cell charging" and "heavy lifting"?

Paul

the 777+ may melt down if power is interupted during discharge.
the +2 seems to have this fixed.

Hmmm... If we ever get these AAA LiIons we ordered, we'll have to remind folks to charge at least two in parallel, as they're only 300mAh cells and an 800mA charge rate would kill them.
