Dropped :( Need sharpener

Today at work I pulled out my brand new Gerber knife, dropped it, instinctively tried to catch it, stabbed my self and dropped it anyway. The blade angle is pretty small/thin and it's a cement floor so it messed up the edge pretty bad. I have two Gerber knifes and these things come RAZOR sharp and I would like get it close to that when I'm done. All I currently have is single beginner pocket stones I got in boy scouts lol

Looking at these, any others? Do the x-cross sharpeners with set angles work good or is a stone the best?

I prefer the Spyderco TriAngle Sharpmaker, as the angle is easy to maintain (the stones are slant, and you have to hold the knife vertically). A good sharpener is an investment, since a "sharp knife is a safe knife". :)

Well I have looked at some other threads and that seems to be what other people are suggesting either the Spyderco the Lansky sharpening system, apex or edge pro. Now I have to clue how these things even work but I do understand that it is very hard to hold your knife at the exact angle free hand on a flat stone. So should I just pick one up and find out?

With an adjustable system like the lansky or edge pro you can just take a sharpie to your knive, making the edge all black, and then start from the flattest angle upwards with a smooth stone to 'see' when you hit the proper angle. As soon as the sharpie-black is removed right next to the edge of the blade you have the edge-angle. Could very well be that the knife has strange double bevels and such but you can also find that out with the sharpie trick and angle-tests. There's a lot of info to be found on this kind of thing on the net.

Or, since you need to 'repair' the edge anyways you will be removing a lot of material so you could also just give it any angle you want. In that case i ran recommend the Spyderco sharpmaker with the additional diamond rods for serious reprofiling, just give the knife the sharpmakers pre-set angle and back-bevel and youll be fine.

Check Woodcraft.com and look for the Veritas system. Made for chisels and plane irons but work fine for short knife blades.
