I was looking up EVs one day at a site that housed nothing but EVs from folks. Anyway of all the cars, lawnmowers and other made vehicles and converted ones was a drag strip car. It was some late model 80s ford or chevy, maybe a pontiac or dodge for all I know. It was converted with a motor at each rear wheel and a load of batteres and a switch to make it serial or parallel the rear motors to the power. I believe he could do the quarter mile in 13 seconds and to run his car he loved to abuse and show off the power of an EV he used dump charging between runs. I believe he started up in parallel mode than switched to series. For burn outs he just dumped it in series.
As for charging the car for runs he mentioned he dumped charged it. He never mentioned much detail how he did it, but further research by me showed that dump charging was using a bank of batteries at a higher voltage, sometimes double to quickly charge something. It was noted that it was dangerous and would shorten the life of the batteries involved, but it seemed worth the effort to them.
Is this dump charging? Is it worth it shortening the life of the batteries?
