Duracell 223\'s

After reading posts about separating 223 cells to create 2 123's I decided take the plunge and try a little surgery myself. I bought 2 Duracell 223's from Cheapbatteries.c*m @ $2.00 each (same price as 123's in my quantity go figure).

The problem is, the plastic holding the batteries together is rather thick and rigid, making it difficult to cut. The design of the battery is such that it looks like I may damage the cells if I cut them out.

Did I buy the wrong brand of 223? Are these cells going to be Siamese twins for life?

Re: Duracell 223\'s

Around the bottom of the battery pack you should see were there is a "cap" that is press fit on there. Get a pair of sharp large wirecutters and see if you can pry that cap off and peel it back like asardine can... the you can grab the batteries by the metal strip and pull them out. Make sure not to short out the battery or you will get a nice spark...

might also want to look up in the batteries section a thread entitled something like "Splitting 223's"

Re: Duracell 223\'s

Careful use of a Dremel with an cut off wheel works well.

I just use pliers--carefully place the pliers on the cap and just crush it off--takes 2 seconds.
