ALL my Duracell batteries have leaked after 3 months or so recently destroying my Elektrolumens 3x3 watt and a Aiwa voice recorder. My daughter's entire class had leaking Duracells in their electronic dictionaries.
Called up Procter and Gamble. They refused to replace unless products were seen by an outside electrician as they have none in house despite their guarantee for tnheir batteries and being a huge company. No electrician I consulted was interested, all say throw and buy new products.
Any advice?

I'd say send an email over to the folks at the Consumerist.

This is more of a customer service issue and they specialize in helping people reach higher levels of service than the company 800#. A little shame might do Duracell some good.

There is hardly an Alkaline battery that an Eneloop can't out perform. Do your self a favor and replace your Duracells with Eneloops. Thats the best justice of all. (Plus you will save money) (and probably equipment)

For things I use alkalines in, I use Costco or BJ;s brands. They seem to last as long as Duracell or Energizer and I have not had a leaker yet. Seceral years. And about half the cost. And I check EVERY battery operated device in the house every 5 weeks. Any alkalines below 1.50 no load goes away. Works well for me.

While not 100% conclusive, it appears that Duracell manufacturers the Kirkland branded batteries for Costco.

I finally had both Duracell and Kirkland brand batteries leak - in my plastic battery recycle container.
Interestingly enough, the cells that leaked from both brands had use by dates of March 2014.

I have gotten rid of all DURACELLS. Seems they should make better batteries and have better interest in their customers.
Anyway they just lost me and I'm seriously thinking of leaving all P&G products.
The customer service rep in the call centre just says they will ESCALATE my concerns. I want them to ESCALATE their products and service.

After having to throw away a number items that leaking alkalines had ruined, I no longer use any alkalines. Eneloops in everything, for me.

is the panasonic cell identical to the rayovac?
looks close but hard to tell.
as for alkaline leaks i had several moderately expensive items killed by leaking rayovacs.
they took care of it with no fuss.

I've had a few Rayovac leaks myself, nothing expensive enough to make it worth shipping to them though and a couple caught early enough to clean up myself.
So far no energizer leaks.
Only NiMH rechargeable to leak has been a radio shack.

I've never had a Rayovac leak, just Duracell and Energizer.

I found some Panasonic and Rayovac cells in my battery recycling container and they are very close in design and appearance.

The positive ends look identical, but the negative ends are slightly different.
