Dorcy has this one: http://www.dorcydirect.com/p-24-41-2092-dynamo-led-headlamp-with-battery-pack-charger.aspx

Anyone use this headlamp with success? What do you think about it? Can you vouch for it?

Seems just the thing for nuclear winter during which solar lights might not charge properly.

Can you actually crank it while on your head?

I don't have a crank light/radio that hasn't failed due to mechanical breakage of the dynamo. I wonder if this one is different.

Just how bright/useful is it? Heavy? Comfortable?

$15 and free shipping sounds attractive. I already have a terrific battery-powered headlamp, the tiny and brilliant Coleman XRE, so this would be a backup.

Thank you kindly.

Update: found the 15% off code, NEWYEAR, so I couldn't resist and went ahead and ordered it and the two-pak keychain dynamo/crank lights, gifts for a 7-year-old.

In my head I pictured a headlamp with a crank close to the ear

May be better than the solar powered light for DX that had such a bad battery it only worked in the sun.

LOL

Thanks, I needed that.

Head crank kind of defeats the hands-free concept of the headlight but a crank coming right out of the side of your head does tend to create quite a picture. You should work of this.

Perhaps a wind-crank, with spinning blades, as the wind blows, coming out of your head would promote the hands-free concept and still be funny/dangerous. Oh the possibilities...
