I understand. For the majority of my long life, that connotation never really existed - it's a relatively recent 'thing'. That's what happens when people change 'the language', and it's widespread in recent times. I'm completely confused by some of the current vernacular myself. It's likely a product of the 'alphabet generations'.;-)Why are you yelling?
I think I understand how that happened. When 'bold' font became a common option for 'emphasis', eventually 'bold' became what 'caps' had been for the prior century (for those of us for whom 'bold' had never been an option), and 'caps' became 'yelling'. I'm a little slow, but I get it That might have been about the 'x' gen(?).I understand. For the majority of my long life, that connotation never really existed - it's a relatively recent 'thing'. Don't think that's a new thing, at least within the span of home Internet. Computer books from the mid 1990s teaching people what an email was said all caps was considered yelling. Single words in caps is still emphasis.
Had to look it up (I don't know the alphabets), but I guess that would have been around 'x' coming of age, so I was not far off. 'Bold' really became a common option with word processing software, which replaced the typewriters of my youth, which essentially didn't do 'bold' (although the Selectric might have done overstrike - but I didn't learn on electrics). That might have been about the 'x' gen(?).
I recall no option for any 'emphasis' with typewriters other than CAPS, and we did not consider it yelling, only emphasis. The 'yelling' part came later, man.I am 40. So I'm not as old as some here. But caps has always meant yelling. Even in much older literature. This is not a generation thing.
Looks like op completely removed their question anyway
I hope we didn't insult the OP.Looks like op completely removed their question anyway
I view a thread titled 'E' and post 'I' next up wouldn't it be an E again, as in E-I-E-I-O Old McDonald had a farm?Looks like op completely removed their question anyway
Try to delete my old post but don't know how.I view a thread titled 'E' and post 'I' next up wouldn't it be an E again, as in E-I-E-I-O Old McDonald had a farm?
I think there may be a time limit after posting when the poster can delete one, and after that I don't think the system provides that option(?). I'm no expert, but I think I've noticed that. I think I've just 'edit'ed the unwanted content out after that expires. No worries.Try to delete my old post but don't know how.
Yes. But when someone was speaking, in quotations, it meant yelling. Look, it doesn't matter. The post is about EBL cellsI recall no option for any 'emphasis' with typewriters other than CAPS, and we did not consider it yelling, only emphasis. The 'yelling' part came later, man.
