Hmm... just a thought here, dunno if anyone's tried it out yet. I know that some ppl say that the knurling on the Surefires may be a little rough on the pockets, etc.. But I was just thinking if would it be possible to remove the clip off a E1e and then 'tube shrink' (is that the correct term?) it with a bicycle tyre inner tube or something like that? I've seen someone post a pic of their Arc LS 'tube shrunk' before, just thinking if the same could be done to an E1e as well? Anyone tried it before?

I am sure that it would be easy enough to do, but I've been letting me E2e roam free in my pocket the last month and haven't had any significant problems. It would be nice to protect it from my clipped knives, but I can get used to it.

Conventional shrink tube can be had in diameters large enough to do the job. I used to use it to protect bundles of wire that had to lay next to a lift arm on some of the photo processors I worked on. I bought the stuff from a commercial/industrial supplier of electrical supplies. I think it was about $2 for a 3 foot section.

I just clip my E1E/KL1 on the inside of my pocket. We do have some shrink wrap that size if someone wants to try it. Check out the shrink wrap page and PM me and I will send you some in a #10 envelope free to try out.

Well, thanks Batterystation, I'd love to take up that offer, except I'm all the way in M'sia... postage might cost a little more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anyone else here willing to give it a go?

I just bought the finest sandpaper I could find...which is this fabric stuff with what seems to be ceramic glued on to one side... it feels smooth... My L1 was SOOOO rough compared to the LSH I'm used too... N-Ehoo, I just lightly massaged my L1 with the "paper" and it worked like a charm! I am VERY picky, and other than being smoother, the light appears unaltered! Used to carry an E2, but it somehow got forgotten, and lost. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Stanley,
It is still just a postage stamp or two. I can put it in an elvelope and mail it. Will take ten days to get there, but that is ok.

I put a KL4 head on a an old grey E1 -- this has become my EDC. I also found the knurling on the E1E a bit rough for daily carry.

Well, I'll try and post my findings and pics (if possible) as soon as I get the shrink wraps from Kevin... Stay tuned!

If your hands are not tough enough, you can get a rag and rub in up and down, across, and diagonally in all directions to get it nice and smooth. It takes only a few minutes per light.

Well, if your hands are not tough enough, don't use the rag, use your hands to rub across the surface of the knurled body, and they'll turn out not only tough, but rough too!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Personally, I think the light will look pretty cool with a 'protective cover' over it... gives you better grip too, I suppose. Can only wait and see...

Well Dan, think it'll take a little while more before the package gets to me... Kevin reckons about 10 days or so... Don't worry I can' wait too!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Will post an update as soon as I try it out!!

I may try this on one of mine... I have some of that shrink tube laying around... and this is easily undone if I don't like it. (...just gotta' be careful not to nick the light when cutting the shrink tube!)

Hmm.. i have received my order from Kevin, but took me a while to realise that there were no shrink tubes in the package!! *sigh* Maybe Kev forgot while rushing my order off... Oh well, no matter, I'll see if I can find an inner tube from a bicycle tyre or something...

Hey Rev, any luck with yours yet?

The E2E is my EDC, & I find the knurling it a bit rough. It does shred your jeans after a while. I have had 10 speed bicycle tube on my 6P for years and it works great! Although the E2E is too small for bike tube, heat shrink works well. You can use 10 speed or mountain bike tube on most of your lights with good results. Any bike shop will give you old ones for free, I use them for everything. To user them on a light, just cut to leangth, and wash with warm soapy water, if very tight, heat up a bit with a blow dryer.

Defectfully
Patrick

Thanks for sharing that Patrick! That's probably what I'll be doing as soon as I get a chance to get to the bike shop... I've been told that I can find some similar wire wraps in some shops around here, but apparently they only come in green... Green E1e? I don't think so... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I carried an E1 for almost two years as an EDC. It's now *very* smooth, much more so than my E2e's and M3T arrived.
