E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

Well I have had it a week and like guitar gear i kinda look back after a week and feel I can form a better opinion after the honeymoon.

I imagine like a lot of newbie's I bet, i was sorta shocked at how small the E2d was! picture's and even pic's of it being held didn't really ready me for a light that was this expensive, and this bright (as i found out later) I mean it's a little smaller then a minimag!

Well after i got it out I waited till night and was bowled over! I have been messing with LED's mainly, so other then my tweeked very bright magcharger, seeing a little SF that was only a bit less bright was a freaky experiance!
Because of it's size I suppose it almost seem's fragile, i know it's not but as light as it is and how tight the theading and fit and finish i feel a little paranoid with it.

I now know why CPFer's talk so much about the beam quality, it is so head and shoulder's above my light's, and I now wonder about other incan's like pelican''s and streamlight's
(which i am eyeing a twin task 3c or 2L) measure up.
I am glad i got this light,(almost didn't open it when i saw it, so i could send it back! this much$$ for that tiny thing? and 70 lumen's yeah right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif)

I am enjoying my LSH-P's but i must admit being a throw fan I have played with this light more then any other's.
I guess aside from whitness you can't beat an incan in a equal shootout. I do intend to get a kl4, and other toy's i am sure to come across here.
I have a couple of question's for the board;
what should i use to clean the outside of the len's? i used a ziess eye glass cloth, is that cool?
I have ran a set of batt's already, any of the bulk cheap ones that are a step above?
How long would you say a lamp will last with 1-3 hr's a week on it?
any cool add on's are appreciated!

anyway I really like it and had no idea any light, much less one this small could preform like this. VDG

Congrat's

Buy a couple boxes of 123's from Surefire.
Lamp would last, I guesstimate 2 years. I haven't burned one out yet after five years. Wore the rubber button on my old E2 smooth, but the lamp still running.

I have both Streamlights TT2L and TT3c. The 2L gets two big thumbs up- the 3c gets one thumb down.

Double_A

P.S. You ought to see how small the Surefire M6 is compared to a 2D Maglight.

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

M6 huh? man how does SF do it! yep mon, i am caling SF for a box o' batt's andI think I will go ahead and get the holster that velcro's on and off a belt.

So your pick is the lith TT? smaller/ brighter I take it?

another PIA newbie question: does the bulb darken any with age? VDG

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

Yes they can do, but, in my experience of the MN03 lamp it has never happened even though I have put plenty of batteries through it.

Best be prepared - have an SC3 Spares Carrier with an MN03 lamp and four SF123A batteries!

Better advice was never given. It's an absolute necessity to keep a fully stocked SC3.

The SC3 is really cool. I think it's one of the best SureFires ever made. Seriously, it's so cute!

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

The advantage of the SC3 in my opinion is its size - also for these lights like L4 that don't need replacement LA's but rather cells. An excellent upgrade to have around 24/7 as it is so small!

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

That's right - It can be used with or without a Lamp Assembly and it doesn't appear to have any wasted space if you don't keep a Lamp Assembly in it!

Good luck - I ordered my spare lamp, carrier, and batteries from SF 3 weeks ago and they're still "waiting to ship." If you can find them at a local store, I'd buy them there.

But, I agree with you on the E2D - it's my first Surefire and I really like it.

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

I used to EDC an E1, and was impressed with the size/output. The E2D is the same of course, just a cooler package. Maybe more usefull in a confrontational situation, but IMO not that much more. It just looks cool, which is why I bought mine. I don't think it's any more usefull as a defensive tool than my old E1. Unless you can punch and turn with an unreal amount of force. Then your oponent will have a 1" hole through him/her. That would hurt. However I can't do it. So, just the coolness factor for me.

cool! I definately didn't get it for punching holes in people, I felt the same really cool looking! but i do "need" the ability to stand the light on end that was the clincher. VDG

Re: E2d: my thought\'s after a week.

Initially I purchased the E2D because I wanted to add it into my Surefire collection even though I had the E2e. I personally think the crenellation would not help much in a confrontational situation but as I said, it was part of my collection.

Between me and the E2D it is a love, hate relationship. I loved it initially, then I hated it after it tore 3 holes in my then brand new tactical pants. It got left in my wardrobe for a while but lately I fell in love with it again after playing with it. The black is just so cool!!

My E2D has a little tighter focus than the E2e after Surefire sent me a new bezel. The original one I had was not so well focused and there is a slight noticeable shadow in the centre of the beam, so I called SF.

I now carry either my E2e, or the E2D with an SC3 spares carrier plus the E1e, KL1 combo and I never felt safer and more confident going anywhere 24/7. Bravo!!
