Here's the story. I had a E2DL for a couple of years and liked it at first. I grew not so fond of the high ride bezel up carry, the crenellated bezel, and the fact that I couldn't turn it on to low first if I wanted to. That said, it was a tank of a light and I loved the smooth beam with good throw and it just felt right. I got rid of it and now that I have a couple more lights I realize how nice of a size it was and how much I liked the beam. Would the LX2 fill the void? If the beams are comparable, I think it might. It seems to solve all of the things that didn't work for me on my E2DL. If anyone has both lights what do you think of the beams? Also does the LX2 ride better in your pocket? Any other observations would be more than welcome. Thanks.

I have both and the beams are similar, the standard Surefire E-series optic beam. My E2DL does have a whiter beam, but I'm sure that's just natural variation.
The low of the LX2 is 15 lumens and noticeably brighter than the 5 lumen low of the E2DL. Search the archives and you'll find a runtime test showing that both run equally as long on low despite the different brightnesses.
Yes, the LX2 does ride better in the pocket, thanks to the lack of aggressive crenulations and the two-way clip. I loved the clip so much I bought another Lx2 clip on the CPF Marketplace and installed it on the E2DL. The LX2 is smoother overall, so it gets to ride in my pants or coat pocket. The E2DL tends to snag wear on fabric, so I use that more for bag carry or other off-body carry.
The UI is the biggest difference. I really do prefer the standard clickie, but the LX2 is also such a great light I overlook that tailcap. I love both.

I too have both. In fact, i had the E2DL and lost it so I walked around mad for a couple weeks and then I decided I must replace it so I bought a LX2 instead. Within a couple days of buying a new LX2, my E2DL showed up so now I have both!
The beam tints are pretty much identical and dont think they could be accurately picked in a blind taste test. High appears to be pretty much the same bightness as well. I run both of mine on AW RCR123 cells and they take them just fine. I do love the pocket clip on the LX2 MUCH better, so I scored another one and now I have an LX2 clip on both of them! Love the way the E2DL carries now that it has a correct bezel down clip. I also think that side by side, the LX2 looks better than a stock E2DL, but my E2DL is now cerakote white so its quite foxy :naughty: . At first I thought I liked the clicky of the E2DL better, but after having them both for a while, I am postive I lke the LX2 interface better. I actually bought an L1 and got rid of my E1B because I like the interface of the LX2 so much. Press for temporary on and twist for constant on is just perfect. Get to high or low with one motion.

Thanks for the replies. Now I am even more confused though. I have just been looking at specs on the U2. This light has a more desirable UI than the LX2 for me. How would the beam from the U2 compare to the E2DL? Its only rated at 100 lumens and doesn't have the optics. Is the output that much less?

The U2 is from 2006, and has not been updated since. It has an older emitter. Yes, it's that much less. The beam is more floody and less throwy thanks to having an orange-peel reflector instead of a TIR optic.
I have a U2 myself (it is modded, though), and I strongly prefer the two-stage switch of my LX2 as it can be operated easily one-handed, with nothing else than varying the pressure on the switch.
The clip of the LX2 is also much better.
I would not buy a U2 now, especially not a new one, as it is such an old light. It has a relatively weak and inefficient emitter compared to today's LEDs. If you can find a cheap, used one, the modders here on CPF can replace the LED with an XM-L for you, but that's some extra effort and expense.
