An "absolutely has to work" light must (as a basic feature) have a switch mechanism that won't come on accidentally, and be as close to 100% reliable as is humanly possible. I was pocket-carrying a Premierlight PL1 recently (pushbutton switch on the side) and the thing came on accidentally getting warm and unnecesarily running down the battery. I knew good and well about this risk, but forgot temporarily, and now carry a simple twist-head 7 LED McKinley. It has never come on accidentally and of course the twist-on feature is one of the simplest and most reliable. Each of us has to decide for themselves about his EDC "features" but mine are getting fine-tuned by your comments in this thread.

I had my EDC L4's LED "retire". As cy said, "That's why I carry an ARC AAA." BTW Surefire did make it right with no problems. In one year the L4 had around 200 hours of use on it.

I would have to say yes. I have rendered at least three PrincetonTec Attitudes inoperable. I have sent them to PrincetonTec and they have been dutifully replaced.

I seem to keep grinding the innner contacts into oblivion, so that I really have to bear down when twisting the bezel to get them to turn on. I killed two lights this way. With the third light, I threw it into a bag for an interstate trip and found out later something had cracked the bezel quite badly. I gave up sending them back. I carry my SureFire E1e on my person now.

I like PrincetonTec. I really do. I just wish their lights were made out of a stronger plastic, or perhaps aluminum.

i have read about those PT attitude failures.
is it the little plastic "Ledge" that wears down?

i wonder if PT could create a metal part that slips over the "ledge" which compreses the "switch bar"?

it could be glued in place...and shouldnt wear down like the current plastic "Ledge".

Usually when I decide to not use a product anymore, I dislike the product and it's an easy decision. Not so with PrincetonTec. I LIKE their lights.

The very first PrincetonTec I bought, a Blast, is STILL WORKING. I let my wife borrow it for a business trip some years ago and she liked it so much I gave it to her.

Oddly enough, she misplaced it about a year ago. I found it this past weekend in an old travel bag, buried at the bottom of a closet. The batteries are god knows how old. I tried it. Works just fine. Bright as can be, too. She was glad to have it back in her purse.

Riddle me this: How come the Blast takes a licking and keeps on ticking, while the Attitude does not? Not one Blast I bought has died. Every Attitude I bought has died. That's weird.

The lil metal strip that activates the light is on the lamp assembly, so you basically get a new switch every time the blast lamp assembly is changed. I think the Blast Lamp assemblys only have an 8 hour or so lifespan too, so it's getting many less on/off cycles then the attitude. That's my guess anyhow.

Proper planning prevent p*** poor performance... The basic idea with an EDC light, among other things, is the absolute dependability and reliability.
I stopped EDCing the ArcLS when I noted it was turning on by itself in the pocket. I stopped EDCing Arc4 Rv. 2 when I noted that a single drop could have killed it. Same goes with P60/61 and MNxx based incandescent.
I never stopped EDCing the Arc AAA. My high selective criteria has driven me to choose the U2 as main EDC, backed up from the AAA and a E2e/KL1-1stGen/Z57/168S for routine tasks. My combination of lights can take a serious beat, while driving me trough days of darkness... with no fear of failure.

I had an Arc AAA which didn´t turn on 90% of the time what was very annoying. Had it replaced 2 times, the last one was the first to work properly, and then Arc went out of business.
There never was a really "dangerous" situation were I would have needed the light, but anyway.

The only other EDC failure was empty batteries in a G2. And as You all know, if a G2 has sucked out the batteries, there´s no dim emergency light, it just stays dark /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
