I'm looking at getting a small light I can just shove into a pocket and have it not get in the way until I need it.

Right now, I'm strongly leaning towards the new LumaPower Connexion X2, with the Zebralight H50 and Fenix LD10 distant followers (Mostly for UI reasons).

Features I'm looking for: Forward clicky, at least two light modes, regulated, no silly strobe or sos modes, 1 AA (I have a bunch of rechargeables already, and don't want to invest in RCR123s and a charger right now), cost under $50-$60. Throw isn't very important; it'll be used for things like finding a particular key, or seeing where I dropped something, so a nice floody pattern is ideal.

The X2 seems to fit the bill, but are there any other similar lights that I'm overlooking that are worth considering?

You might consider the EagleTac P10A. I mention it because I own the P10A2 and quite like it, and it has a forward switch that you want. Otherwise, I would recommend the Fenix, since the Eagletac is a little on the large size, whereas the Fenix is more standard. For an EDC, you would appreciate having a really low mode (less than 10 lumens, preferably less than 5) which lights like Fenix or Nitecore have.

I've had a Connexion since it came out last year. The best thing I can tell you about it is that I just placed an order for an X2. :D

Seriously, the Connexion is a small nice light that puts out a nice warm white beam. The three levels are sufficiently well spaced and the clip is very helpful. IMHO it is a light that can be used to illuminate your path even if it does not stun your drinking pals at the bar. :)

Out of the suggestions so far, I like the looks of the D10 (The golden dragon version, which sounds like it has better runtime than the cree one.) On the high end of my budget, but it sounds like it's a higher quality construction than the Connexion, and has the niftiness of being able to fine-tune the light output compared to lights with fixed settings.

EDIT: And now that I'm looking for places to buy one, I can't find anywhere selling the golden dragon version. 4sevens only has preorders for an upcoming D10 with a cree R2, and the few other places I found only have the cree Q5 version. Grr.

AFAIK the Golden Dragon versions of the D10 have been discontinued. The EX-10 and Extreme are still available with the GD LED but I think they might be phased out as well.

Nice build quality on the D10 if your EDC must be AA then this would be a good choice.

And it only came out in the last 6 months! That was fast. Grr again.

The GDP emitter version proved to generally have lower output with lesser runtime with cooler tint. It was an experiment, and an unpopular one. Hence why it was discontinued.

I actually like the Golden Dragon better than the CREE but it does not deliver the warm tint many of us were hoping for.The GD does offer a nicer beam than most CREE lights IMO. The Q5 or R2 lights should be brighter.

the d10 is a great light but sometimes when i "just shove" it in my pocket it can activate. this is not a deal breaker.
the other thing about a d10 is that they are not heavey enough to use as a hammer and when you do use it as a hammer it turns on and off with every whack. again... not a deal breaker but worth consideration ;)
