Hi guys!

Hope you can help me out. No doubt, Novatac's lights have been surpassed in terms of brightness but I am still amazed at
how easy their user interface was: Short press- momentary (100%), click- on, press (when on)- strobe.

Can you point to a modern, maximum brightness EDC format (1X CR123, 1xAA) light that has this interface?

Thanks!!

HDS200 has 200 lumens and an xpg emitter, it's the only other light with the same UI.
there more expensive but well worth it. It's also easier to program than the Novatac

I second the HDS, they are the direct descendant of the novatacs, and are completely bomb proof! My two hds lights are the ones I'd choose in a real emergency. I work in a copper mine, and my old 85tr twisty lives in a pelican case with 6 cr123 cells as an emergency light.

The other option is to modify your old novatac. My beater light is a novatac storm with a neutral XML dropped in. It puts out a surprising amount of light now, and the mod was fairly simple.

Cheers,
Alex

HDS are great lights I am sure, however they are now being made of Unobtainium.

No lights have Henry's UIs except his lights, HDS, Ra, Novatac. That said, if the main point is easy access to high and strobe, and you are open to other formats, then you want to look at the Klarus XT line, and in a 1x123 format, you're looking at the XT1C. momentary-press or click the big main button, it comes on in high. Hold the smaller button, which is perfectly placed, and you get strobe, WHETHER THE LIGHT IS ALREADY ON OR OFF (that is, instant access to strobe at any time). It's also got true momentary or clicky operation, much more suitable for defensive use if that's one of your use cases. If you run it on an RCR, it is brighter than the specs say (though you will need to monitor it for overheating). http://www.klaruslight.com/plist_show.php?id=4&lge=en

Henry's UIs have other advantages, such as easy access to 4 different programmable levels, which makes it a winner for an all-around EDC, but for a light that leans a little more heavily on tactical use (but still a great EDC light), the XT1C wins IMO.

Is it correct that the closest these come to a AA-based model is if you select the 2xAA body to lego with the head of one of these ?

Thanks for the Klarus tip, but they are 2cm longer than the Novatac 12oT- which is a lot for EDC.
