Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Back when I was in high school (Class of 99) Wow im gettin pretty old!

I had a large group I hung out with in highschool but there were the few that just bugged the crap out of me, I guess your selection of friends is really limited to your local area. However, when I got into college, you find yourself with a whole new group, those with similar interests and similar goals in life. Trust me man, it gets better once you leave high school. If you can't wait, just get out there and talk to people, instead of saying ''Hi'' to people you see, say ''Hey, how you been dude'' and pretty soon you will have a whole new set of people you associate with.

I just turned 25 and I found a good group of buddies I hang with on a regular basis, With time you will automatically filter out the ones you dislike. Or find a gf and ditch them all!

Btw get your party on, travel, whatever because once you get a full time job FORGET ABOUT IT! You do have $$$$ to buy toys though :)

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Reminds me of the bad old days when I was desperate to be 'accepted'. Exact opposite now that I've risen above it all and I now call the shots.

It really does seem that one encounters a whole lot of bad people in school, people who are really not worth knowing. I have had much better experiences as a working professional - the people are better, easier to get along with, all round. Not to say it's perfect, but it sure as heck is a lot better.

These two guys (based on just your description) don't sound like they're worth it.

Don't worry about it. One lesson I learned was that it is entirely possible to be happy on your own. And when you are, it makes it easier to walk away from the people whom you don't want to associate with. Also, search for them outside the confines of school. I'm the last person who would acknowledge there is any good left in this world but it's been proven beyond any reasonable doubt, so.. I do :) try finding an interest, and a GOOD community brought together by that interest - you tend to meet better people that way.

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

dang... reminded me of one of my classmate(he still is now, becuase this was 1 year before :p) he is like always showing off how much money he has got but does it indirectly. got a few female classmates(2) who are just fustrating the hell out of me because most of time if they talk, they are talking about girly and private stuff, some which are disgusting. they talk loud enough for me to hear and each time i tell them to stop, they will reply" do your work lar(lar is in singlish)" having higher sense of hearing sucks

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Chris, I have to commend you for knowing what you want in your friends. You're not chained to them, so just spark conversations/hang out with other people and you may find individuals who you can enjoy sharing some good times. Even when you have really, really, really good friends, there will be things about them you won't agree with. Accepting those is part of being a friend (but you don't have to put up with any crap either). Good luck!

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Ditto on penguin - going to college is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and find a whole new group of friends. Don't waste that opportunity by hanging with these guys, take the leap and find new ones.

Also, summer's coming so can you find any type of summer job that puts you in a social situation (maybe one where money isn't that good but you can meet people). Camp counselor, youth group counselor, something like that where you'll meet a lot of other counselors (or tutors, or assistants or whatever).

Good luck - believe me one day you'll look back on high school and it will look very small indeed.

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Couple of things... The friends you have and lose touch with when young, you may regain contact 60+ years later... My father-in-law has been visiting and talking with college budies from college back in the early 1940's... And this is a guy that went to college in China and lives in the US now. He knows more friends from 12,000 miles away than I do, and I only live 12 miles from where I grew up. (I was, and still am, a bit of a loner).

Second, remember that friends also help each other out... If you can't help them, or they hurt you--they are not friends.

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

I agree, when you hit college, they will vanish.

Ive never been too happy with what friends Ive had. Of course that changes with my condition and am guessing they dont know how to adapt.

In high school I had a few disabled ones and they always came to me for stuff as I was somewhat the brightest. I never had anyone to fall on myself. What few regular friends I had in shop thought of one thing, the certain part of a womens body. They couldnt look at a car magazine without thinking, craving and talking about that part of her body.

What friends I had in college came and went and dont make the mistake I have with mixing nascar into the mix.

Re: Not satisfied with my friends

Just remember an old saying about friends....."Friends come and go but you accumulate enemies" :) Keep them as old friends if possible. Sounds like you are much more mature than these guys. If they are lucky, they will grow out of it. Enjoy high school while you can!
