Just a quick question. I am thinking about getting the Eiger med cool #8. Is the brass body better for the thermal conductivity than the aluminum ones?
Aluminum transfers the heat better but the brass has more mass??

As far as thermal conductivity, I have no idea. That's a better question for our resident metalurgists. But I'd love to hear from Robyn or Curt on the details of the Eiger. There are a number of options on the website, all using fairly unusual cell types. Also, I thought Peak was getting out of the brass side of the business, yet here's a new offering with a brass body option. What's the purpose of the Eiger? Is it replacing all the other non-police pocket lights?

I love the Eiger, in fact I am going to order another head at a lower power level (5 or 6). It is really a great little lego AAA light. Mix n' Match to suite your current mood. I love the weight and durability of Stainless Steel.

The eiger is a giant slayer! I think you are making the right choice with the #8 medium. Mine- AAA eneloop puts out more useable light than my 7 C cell Maglite- simply amazing for the price. Brass has the benefit of smooooth twistie action- but is heavier and softer metal- that is why I went with the SS. Any way you go- you can't go wrong IMHO.
Hey Orlac- what's with the red o ring- they are not shipping from PEAK that way are they. I think Curt mentioned the silicone orings are softer and less durable.
Looks good!

I ordered the HA one after I talked a guy at Peak. He told me HA>Brass>SS for better heat transfer. I forgot to take his name but he was very knowledgeable and professional which made me place an order right away!

99.95% chance that was Curt- so you talked to the designer/engineer/builder of your light (at least I think he does all of those things). I really hope you like your light- I carry mine every day- and the Eiger was the only replacement that I felt was worthy of replacing my 3 LED PEAK matterhorn on my keychain. The HA is definetely lighter-that is a big bonus- and if you decide to use an energizer AAA lithium cell- it weighs even less.

Curt told me the same thing. HA for best heat transfer, and SS the worst. He said brass was about in the middle.

Yep, had to be Curt. I've visited the company and my impression is that he very much prefers to be behind-the-scenes publicly but enjoys one-on-one conversations with customers. There is no question he's the technical expert of Peak. I think he's primarily responsible for LED selection, overall design, and testing. He also does much of the CNC machining. But, at least in the past, the actual assembly of the lights is done by others in the company. A great little American small business.

They must have a stockpile of Brass Tubes- the pic that orlac had with the 10180, 10280 are knurled and AAA/10440 tube- the AAA/10440 tube is smooth and flared on both ends- the only other smooth brass tubes I have seen are the ones MWClint has modded/sanded polished smooth- new design for the brass perhaps? I hope they make it thru this economic s***storm that we are having now- I wish I had more $ to spend on lights right now-it would be going to them.

those are Stainless Steel it is just bad lighting that sort of makes them look like brass in the pics

just received my Eiger. Med optic gives a beautiful even flood with a little bit of throw and it is very nice! I think I am hooked.

output a bit more than the Arc eh? :candle:

maybe by a factor of 10 or so......:twothumbs

Congratulations - it's easy to get hooked on these Peaks. If you want to try out your Eiger on steroids just pick up a 2 AAA body (I really like them with a momentary switch) for 3.0v, or try a single 10440 for 3.7v.

Where can I purchase one of the Peak Brass models? I don't see them on their website.
