I think there have been other threads on this light already.
I had a chance to try these lights out at Brightguy last week.
He had some demonstrators in his store. They seem like nice lights for the money but the quality leaves lots to be desired. The LED on the sample I tried was way off center. The beam was rather blue and had a lot of artifacts in it which could have been the result of the off centered LED. I did like the sturdy clip on the light, but the rest of the light felt rather light and unsturdy. The variable output is controlled by the tailswitch. There is only one operating mode, the level of which you choose by ramping through the levels and stopping where you want for the lighting situation at hand. The light does NOT remember the setting the next time you turn it on. Still, the interface is simple to use and works well. It flashes twice at the extremes of the ramping range before repeating the ramping. As I recall you press to ramp, release to hold the chosen level. Brightguy is selling these lights in the $43 to 45 range depending on whether it is single A or double A. It comes with the E2 lithium cell(s). I wonder if the price will end up being much less at Target, should it eventually show up there.

I didn't time the ramping sequence; however, it seemed not to take very long, perhaps 5 or 6 seconds. It seemed about right for picking the output you want.
