Just got an Energizer Hardcase (4/D)lantern, this thing is built like an M1A1/Abrams tank! This is something one can throw in the bed of the pickup and not worry about. Now, if I can just find an LED to replace the KPR113 bulb. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

Is that the one with the yellow case and the rubber tread on the bottom and the back? I saw them on clearance at W*lMart for $ 11.00. If it is as durable as it looks I might have to pluck the EverLED from my 3D Mag and try it out.

If I remember correctly someone reviewed the EverLed ( Flashlightreviews.com ) in various lights from 2D-6D and said there wasn't a noticeable improvement in light from 3 up. Battery life might be extended though, I can't remember. I have modified a few lanterns with a 1W and 3W LS. Sometimes I can use the stock reflector sometimes I have to fit in a Mag refector. Say what you will about Mag but it is a very nice reflector. I normally use anywhere from 1 to 3 ohms to regulate the current and make the mod easier. I suppose there are some circuits that woudl work ok but what for? The 6V has monster runtime already and discharges fairly flat already. Anyway, they are nice lanterns and tough to boot. Coincidently I bought one at wallyworld last weekend also!!
There is a 6 1/2-watt LED module available for the Mag-Lite's that should also work in place of any PR-base bulb, available for about $25.

I'm considering this for my 4D MagLite, since I want the most light I can get out of it. Specs call for betweeen 120 and 140 lumens, which is nice.

Wal-Mart is carrying the Mag-Lite branded 3-watt PR-ish LED's for $18, but why not just go for one of those Luxeon's above for just a few more bucks ?
These should work in almost any (ALMOST) flashlight that takes PR-base bulbs that have enough clearance in the reflector. Therefore, I'd cast a positive vote in favor of using one in the HardCase lantern.
Additionally, you're gonna absolutely want some batteries. Do you use rechargeables ? If so, look at the CTA Digital 12-amp Ni-MH D cells. You'll also wanna look at the Maha 808 charger.

You can get the most light by using a Terralux Seoul. Seouls and Crees have twice the efficicency of Luxeons. They might have polarity issues in a Lantern. You might be able to switch the negative and positive though

Yes I've noticed that, I thought the thread was interesting and also wanted to enlighten a new member about the improvements of LEDs.
I haven't seen the Hardcase lantern before, I've seen Hardcase lights and they look pretty good.

the k2 modual wont fit,its make to screw on to the tower ot a maglite.so its a no go,plus there the heat issuse
