hmm...after leaving the Arc in my car's change holder overnight i found that it wouldn't turn on this evening. Darn! A week before my trip to the Philippines.

Dumb question...but did you try a fresh battery? eMail Peter, [From what I hear...and yes I've been brainwashed] he's great to work with on these kinds of things.

One of my EV's had a problem like that once, but I just took the battery out, put it back in, and it started working agin - same battery.

Thanks for the tips folks! I've tried several sets of batteries and it still won't light. I have a feeling that the roll crimp trick might work....but....how do you do it?

---I apologize for my absence here on CPF. My thoughts and energy has been focused elsewhere...so much so that i passed up a Streamlight Ultrastinger deal for 85 dollars....darn! Anyway, come October or mid August, i should be back in the spirit again. I'll try to right my thoughts at the Cafe sometime this week...i miss you guys!

I had a similer problem with one of my Arc-AAA
The fix was I still had water in it
from when I clean it. So I cleaned all
the contacts (Q-tip, Etc.) then left
the light open (Head off the light)
and the light leaning up over night to
let all the water get out. Haven't had any
problems since. Hope that can help someone.

I also had a problem with my brand new ARC EV. It somehow fails to turn on intermittently, and it does this so often. But when I reset the battery, it turns on again. I'm suspecting it might be the roll crimp too. I tried to clean the battery contacts and hope that this would remedy the dilemma. But it still does the same thing. So I had to send it back to TTS and have them exchange it for a white ARC version 3.1 just to be safe. Now the LE's are out and I ran out of money because I bought 4 white ARC version 3.1s!!!

LEDagent -

Gently pull the foam batt retainer off and find yourself a nice flat piece of steel. Hold the head firmly, and with hand pressure, you can just roll the back edge of the head at about a 45 degree angle on the steel. You are trying to roll the edge where the head thread end. Trying to wrap them a bit around the board that holds the positive battery contact. It really doesn't take much.

If it helps any - my EV died too. Since there aren't all that many EVs out, I wonder what the problem with them could have been?

OH MY! You guys are great! Thanks Darell for the instructions how to do the roll crimp. IT WORKED!

I'm surprised that many have experienced the same problem. Try the roll crimp before sending it in for repair, it should work for you.

Thanks again!

Enjoy the Philippines! Don't be surprised if lots of people want you to leave your Arc with them.

Will you be staying near Manila/Baguio in Luzon or going to the provences?

Please let us know how things went when you get back.

d'mo! Nice to hear from you! Thanks for ALL the great information you, John N, and the rest have given on my subject.

yes, we will be staying in Manila for most of the 10 days we are there. We will only be there for such a short time, so i'm preparing now to try and soak up all om my culture that i can.

D'mo, are you familiar with the Philippine national dance troup: Bayanihan? They are supposedly very famous (so i've heard). Our dance group (from San Diego) will be performing for them at the CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines), and we are very excited and honored to be aloud this opportunity.

Anyway, i'll update or start a new thread before i leave for the Philippines. I've gathered some equipment that should pull me through in the HOT and MUGGY weather.

BTW...how is the weather during August? Do think Manila will be flooded still? A part of me is hoping that it will not, but my adveturous side is hoping it will. Let's just say...i'm prepared for a 24 hour black-out!

Hey, that's great! I'm just thrilled that anybody could figure out what I was talking about. I just re-read my post and it kind of confused ME a bit.

I've been able to fix every one of mine this way (I actually sent the EV back for replacement before I knew about this fix

Another Arc's life saved. All in a day's work

First of all, let me apologize for being off topic...

LEDAgent. Yes, I've heard of Bayanihan. f I'm not mistaken, they are a folk dance group. I have not see them personally, but I've seen some traditional dance during the Del Monte Pineapple festival at Camp Philips, Bukidnon, Mindinao. Lots of sticks, right?

August will be oppressively hot and humid with occasional severe thunder storms. Anything not kept very dry will get moldy even after a short time. Manila probably won't be flooded any longer. The occasional strong thunderstorm I've experienced might leave a few puddles, but the sandy soil soaks it up rapidly.

Best of Luck!
