Not just in lights, but other devices. I like it when a device uses an even number of cells, like 2 or 4, because I can keep track of them easier.

Princeton Tec Apex is great because it uses 4 AA cells, but Princeton Tec Yukon 3. Garmin GPS 60-series uses 2 cells, and so does Fenix L2D-CE.

mee too. when i finnaly changed my 3AAA cruddy lights from ni-mhy over for some other power source, i couldnt FIND the ding blasted fourth ones anymore :-(
course the AAAs that i used were of low capacity after that, so they wouldnt match the original, but i wish i knew where the 4th one was.
it was like washing socks, somewhere out there in a void in the universe, is many many unmatched single socks, and almost new batteries searching for a home.

The numbers of batteries used has a lot to do with direct drive voltage requirements of the LED's being used.
Back when I was making Modded Maglights. I allwys used 3 cell hosts because the emitters I liked, liked to be driven at 4.2 volts. The 4.5V over drove the light for a little while but it ballanced out.

I would often still use those same hosts when using drivers to avoid direct drive.
The viltages of Lithium cells really changed everything.

I have so many NIMH cells I keep them either cooking or in a plastic batery holder.
I have radios which use 3 cells insted of 4. Oh well. If you have enough batteries of a matched capisity It doesn't matter much. I say just buy lots of btteries and MARK them with the date of first charge. Then throw them away after a year of so since they are loosing ther strength about then.
Remember rechargable cells do not last forrever.

So, am I to take it that everyone that doesn't like lights that use odd number of cells doesn't care for single cell lights...? :)

I think all my lights take either one cell, or an even number. I have a grand total of ZERO 3xAAA lights.

Odd number'd lights are just a great excuse to buy more lights!

Instead of getting just one 3AAA get two, so you don't have a wasted AAA laying around! :)

Although in my case .. its been the excuse I've been trying to use to purchase an L1D so I can use up the extra AA my 3AA mag keeps tossing at me. :)

I dislike 4.5V (3 cell) LED lights because it usually means their current regulation is a simple resistor. Works ok for 3 x D cell, but it's less efficient, and I'd rather spend the money for a better regulated light.

Of course, I love my 3.0/3.7 and 9.0/12/13 lights running on 1 or 3 CR123a/RCR123a. Someone in the incan forum quipped, "The fun begins at 9 volts".
