EverLED now features reverse polarity protection!

They have had it for some many months now. I assume the packaging is so marked.
I just got one a week or so ago, and there is a little slip of paper in the packaging that says:
WARNING!!! Do not attempt to use the EverLED in lights that do not have a positive(+) connection at the tip or damage to the EverLED may occur.
Nothing on the packaging about reverse polarity protection, and assuming the above blurb, reverse polarity can damage the bulb. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

I've got a "maybe" correction. I just looked at a current Everled statement at Brightguy. They warn against reverse polarity installation.
I may be thinging of another drop in, or the fact that they didn't put a polarity warning on the early ones, anyway, until someone chimes in, watch it.

YOu should always check the package. The everled you buy today (brand new) may have been sitting in a shelf for the last 6 months or it may have been made last week. Old stock with the same name and model number always causes problems if there are major differences (and this is major).

My EverLED has the reverse polarity warning, and I got it in late July 2003. I agree with JohnK and gadget_lover on this matter, and you should always ensure the bulb polarity is correct: (+) on the bulb nipple at the end, and (-) on the can type base.

Update!!!
I received mine today and according to the manual it is new version with reverse polarity protection!
Manual says there are 2 types of new version
1. Dot version : Positive tip, it has a dot mark after "Everled" mark on the bulb.
2. Diamond version : Negative tip, it has a diamond mark after "Everled" mark on the bulb.
According to the manual these new lots are start this year.

How are these EverLED drop-in's anyway? I never hear anyone talking much about them, let alone raving about them.

I bought an EverLED white when they first came out. At the time they seemed to be getting rave reviews. I was very disappointed and I felt I had wasted $40. I put it in a Mag and I wasn't impressed with the brightness. It was white, but it still had the Mag beam pattern. If I remember right I tested it in a 2C and a 3D. I traded it to another CPF member. I think I just expected to much. I thought it would be more like a BB/MM, etc. I will not buy another EverLED.

I think the EverLED works best in faceted reflector flashlights, but individual results may vary.

I have 4 Everleds and like them quite a bit. 2 Whites, 1 Teal, and 1 Red. One of the White Everleds is quite a bit dimmer then the other and resides in a Stainless steel Garrity 2D light. It gives an acceptable beam and is better then a 2 cell krypton bulb. I have the brighter White Everled in a Rayovac 2D Industrial which gives a nicer beam and long runtime. The brighter of my 2 white Everleds is just a bit dimmer then my Arc-LSL standard. The Teal Everled doesn't get used, it rests in the spare bulb holder in the Rayovac 2D for lack of anything better to do with it. It appears brighter then the white Everleds but hurts my eyes, seems to make everything blurry, and doesn't allow you to see details of whatever you're looking at. The Red is in a 2C Mag-lite very easy on my eyes, allows me to pick out details in objects, and seems to make objects more distint. Even though the Red Everled appears the dimmest it seems to allow you to see more, I don't really know how to describe it.

I have all the colors, and two whites. The green, teal, and blue changed color when I had them replaced (for lens cracks). The new green is yellow-green whereas the old was "true". The new teal is maybe a bit bluer, and the new blue a bit greener, than the originals.
The colors are interesting, and I am glad I got them. Particularly, it is fun to use the red, green or teal, and blue all at the same time. You can change the colors of everything in the room by partially blocking one or more of the MagLites with your hand. Cool lesson in how light and color work.
For use, yeah, the white are best, though I prefer the yellow for a more "subdued" look at times when the bluish white is too blinding. The red is neat, but more as a curiosity than a practical light for me. It's so bright that it doesn't even begin to preserve your night vision the way a single 5mm red can.
The yellow green is an odd color, probably a saturated version of the "pee-green" white. The cool part is that I found a MATCHING color 3D Mag at Home Depot right after getting it. It's not a color I've seen before or since. It's not the usual Mag green, nor their newer teal.
