EXTENDED BATTERY FOR STREAMLIGHT SL20X SL20 SL20S

3500 MAH SUPER EXTENDED!

If I'm not mistaken I think that the original is a 2600mah nicad pack so I really don't believe the 200% longer runtime claim. If you use the light for a toy go for it. If you use it for emergency and/or daily use I'd say stick with the original.

I believe that battery is the one that is made and sold thru Interstate batteries and you can buy it direct from Interstate from their site. I have bought higher cap portable phone batteries from them and I am quite satisfied with their products, Plus if there is an issue you can deal direct with them. I was looking at these for my own sl20 projects but opted for the 9aa eneloop holder with a different halogen 8volt lamp being overdriven.

I checked Interstate's website and found one 2200mAh pack that will fit both Streamlight 20X and Maglight rechargeable. NiCd chemistry.

If you could find some loose 1/2D cells at a higher amp hour rating, that would work. You could charge in cradle, very slowly, or charge in a D NiMh charger with some magnets to allow connection to charger.

I sold my SL-20 long ago, but I recall the capacity was in the 2.2 - 2.6 range. If the original pack is indeed 2600 mAh, to get "200% longer" runtime (100% longer would mean doubling the run time), you would need a pack with 10,400 mAh, not 3500 mAh! Lower down in the ad he contradicts himself, saying, "... MORE than double burning time than OEM NiCd battery..." If the original pack is 2.6 Ah, a 3.5 Ah pack is no way going to MORE than DOUBLE your run time. You would be lucky to see a 25% increase, not 200%, or even 100%. Sheesh, some salespeople...:shakehead

Actually if a Streamlight 20X gets X amount of an hour with the stock battery pack, say rated at 2200mAh, you will get about 2X runtime using a battery pack correctly rated at 4400mAh. We are talking the incandescent stock bulb of the SL20, which pulls 2+amps, and is probably closer to 3amps draw on the pack. I have used my SL20X with the stock battery pack, and a higher rated pack made up of loose 4Ah 1/2D cells (no longer available), that I got from Ginseng a few years ago. My runtime was significantly improved by about 2/3. Runtime was checked with bounce and lightmeter.

Yes, understood. My point of contention is in some people's misconception that "200% longer" means "2X longer", when it actually means 4X. If a light runs for one hour on, say, a 2200 mAh pack, and one uses a 4400 mAh pack and gets a run time of two hours, the run time is 100% longer, or 2X. There is a difference between saying, "the run time is 200% of that of the stock pack," (2X longer) and saying, "the run time is 200% longer" (4X longer).

It's not unbelievable. However, I would get the one from Battery Junction...

Yes, it's NiMH (not NiCd), it's got higher rating (I measured mine at 3900-4100 mAh, Triton, 3A discharge
rate), while the factory 2500mAh NiCd was holding nearly 2900mAh -- not too bad at all for a two year old
battery.

However, the usual NiMH caveats apply -- don't leave it on charger indefinitely (no more than a day!, and
it really does take 20 hours to fully charge a fully-depleted battery), yada yada yada.

So far, I'm happy with mine.

rdh226, you did good. I buy my RCR123's from batteryspace.com, but did not see that battery pack. That would work good with Malkoff's new SL20X LED drop in. Your Triton will charge those up faster than 20 hours.
