If your light could only have two options what would they be ? Output, run time, size etc..

I'm more concerned with size and runtime I suppose. Not that output isn't important, but in reality I seldom use the highest levels on my lights. Give me small programmable or multi-level lights and I'm happy.

What is the intended use for the flashlight?

For an EDC light, size and weight and runtime are dominant factors.

For prolonged use outdoors (e.g., nightly walks, hiking), long runtimes and brightness are important.

For me it's a toss up between run time and common battery type (AA, AAA, D). Most of my flashlight use is less than 5 feet, so brightness is not an issue. I do have a few throwers, but they don't get used very often.

Well for me it can't have more that 3 levels of light, I actually only prefer 2. Although there are many flashlights I love that have multiple outputs having more that 3 is just unnecessary and the cons of multimode lights outweigh the benefits IMHO. Nothing is worse that hearing something moving in the brush and having to fool around with the light level settings to see what it is.

I would go for the beam and form factor of the Nitecore Extreme with the UI of the D10 or the RA Clicky.

Bezel ring (Like Malkoff) or tail ring (like Elzetta) to set power mode BEFORE turning on the flashlight. No need to click repeatedly to get to the proper mode! No more than 3 power modes. Low - Medium - High. I don't like more than 3 modes. In fact 2 modes is fine.

The main feature I like is versatility. I want a light that can do a lot. Small enough to carry everywhere, yet large enough to provide for a good grasp. I want simplicity, but I also want levels. Runtime is more important than brightness, but it is nice to have great ummph at the push of a button. It also needs to be durable, and waterproof. 1xcr123a is my choice in form factor.

My bored 6P with R4 and 18650.

Then my elusive single mode E2DL with it's R4 as soon as I get it back.

:D

These are by far my favorite two lights. I love them so much that I won't be buying more lights for a long time.

Now my money is going to another 1911. Hopefully a Nighthawk
